Beethoven: The Ultimate Canine Caper

Review by VideoMaster

"If This Game Was an Actual Dog, I Would Have It Put To Sleep"

-----
Intro
-----

Beethoven's 2nd was a game released for the SNES for the sequel of the same name. As I really enjoyed the first two movies as a young kid, I remember really wanting to have this game and play it. Once I actually almost did buy it when I was with my parents and a few relatives. However, I was stopped by a cousin who said "You just go around picking up stuff. You'll regret it." Later on, I did end up buying it.

To this day, twelve year later, I wish I would have listened.

-------
The Story - 6/10
--------

The story, as is the name, is obviously based on the movie. However, the story is only loosely based on the movie. In the movie where the puppies were kidnapped by puppy thieves wanting to have their evil, greedy ways with them and Beethoven and the family went to save the kidnapped puppies. In the game, the puppies have simply come up missing and Beethoven sets out to locate them and bring them home safely.

------
Graphics - 5/10
------

The graphics are okay, but nothing really jumps out at you. When you defeat enemies, their expression is the corniest thing I have ever seen in a video game. And "corniest" is in no way relating to a good thing. However, I will admit that the animals and people are drawn well enough.

------
Gameplay - 1/10
------

You go through right through each level barking at enemies until you get to the end. At the end of the first, you find your puppy and must get through the next level while carrying it. That's it. Nothing if not straight-foward. However, in the second section of each level, you are at your most vunerable as you can't bark at enemies when the puppy is in your mouth.

Better yet, here's one sentence that completely sums up the gameplay and the entire game itself. As my cousin once stated, "You just go around picking up stuff."

-------
Replayability - 1/10
-------

Never in my life have I given a game a '1' for replayability. There is absolutely no replay value I can find with this game. I never even had the interest to ever actually beat the game at all.

Overall Opinion
----

I wouldn't bother ever looking for this game. Play something much funner instead. Even if you do happen to find it, I still wouldn't bother with it, unless it was free. Even then it would be an iffy. Somehow, I feel there's just something missing from this game. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is.

Take it from me. If you ever see this game, you are just better off skipping over it for another game.
