Magic Knight Rayearth

"A cute and short little game that has lots of charm"

So, can't find the saturn version of Magic Knight Rayearth? You can make do with the very good SNES version. Really, I don't understand why so many have dissed this RPG cause it's a cool game.

Alright here we go:

Story: 7/10
Ok the story is ok. It is basically just a save the princess type thing with a twist. (Three girls must save the princess instead of the generic lookin' long haired guy.) The three girls are summoned to this world from a field trip to Tokyo Tower and they must save the world by becoming Magic Knights and killing the evil man holding the princess hostage. Altough I don't want to give it away, there is one big plot twist around the end. Also, I like the characters. Hikaru, Umi and Fuu each have distinct personalities and are very likable. The only I would have liked to see more of is character development. I know this is supposed to be a cute little Rpg but some drama or characterization would've been nice. All in all, very cute and pretty good. Also, The people at Lina and Chan's did a great job of translating the text and everything flows smoothly.

Graphics:6/10
This isn't chrono trigger but the graphics do the job. They are bright and colorful, but the spell effects could've been nicer though and the enviornments lacked detail. However, the many expressions the characters make in there anime face is nice.

Music: 10/10
The music is great. It is very cute and very happy. The battle music is great, the boss battle music is great and the opening music is really good too. The music is very catchy.

Game mechanics: 6/10
Ok the game is very easy, but only most of the time. Then the game all of the sudden gets very difficult and then it gets very easy again. (One enemy causes 1 damage when you have 900 Hp.) The last boss was pretty easy too. HOWEVER, there is a way to remedy this. My heroes, Lina and Chan, have made a patch to go on the rom which will allow you to make the game much more difficult. Agh and I forgot to mention the encounter rate is very irritating as it happens at every 2 steps.

Replay:2/10
There's really nothing left to do after you beat, just enjoy the memories.

So WHY am I giving this game a high score? Well it was a fun diversion from those serious rpg's and I found myself smiling more than once. Plus it had cool characters and the anime was nice too. There is a lot of charm in this game that made me like it a whole lot. I reccomend you play it. It's only like 10 hours long so it won't take up too much time.
