"Don't mix this up with the Genesis version. That one is fun."
I personally think the Genesis version of this game is the best console game ever. This is the worst. It's a shame this game lacks all the fun and polish of that one... this game is terrible.
Graphics 5/10
Alright, I must give credit where credit is due. These graphics are absolutely... positively... average. There is nothing special about these bland graphics. When developers can offer such great graphics on SNES as those found in Donkey Kong Country, you'd think they could at least make the graphics on par with the Genesis and arcade versions of the game.
Sound 1/10
You'd think that a game that revolved around a rock band would have decent music. But then you'd be wrong. It seems like they have the same few lines of music repeating. A lot. I mean, come on. The lame gun effects don't exactly attempt to make up for this. There is a tiny little tapping sound whenever you shoot something. Oh, joy.
Control 1/10
Alright, is this a joke? Sure, it's easy to move your gun, but actually hitting anything is nearly impossible. This will result to you dying at the hands of weak enemies that should present no challenge. You'd think that mouse support would make things better. But then you'd be wrong. Button 1 doubles as both the start and fire button, and Button 2 is the CDs. Not only that, the game is much too sensitive with the mouse.
Story 10/10
Alright, they kept one thing intact from the arcade version. The wonderful story. A group called the New Order Nation (NON) wants to censor society, end fun, and brainwash teenagers. They kidnap Aerosmith. It is your job to stop them. The story isn't epic, but for the game that it is, it works very well.
Mood 1/10
The mood is completely lost in this asinine conversion of a great game.
Gameplay 1/10
Oh, come on. With control so terrible as this game has, the gameplay couldn't possibly be fun even if they left everything else perfect and allowed you to select your boss. Rather than leave well enough alone, they decided to alter the game in so many ways that you wouldn't even be able to tell the Genesis one and the SNES one are the same game if no one told you. I think even the NES's miserable Operation Wolf has gameplay far the superior to this. Anyone who enjoys this game needs mental treatment, now. As much as I wanted to like this game, remembering to the endless fun the Genesis version used to offer me when I was younger, I just can't. I wouldn't wish this game on my worst enemy.
Challenge Extremely High
It's hard because it's tempting to just pull the game out while your SNES is still on, and throw the cart across the room into the wall until it breaks.
Buy/Rent/Ignore
If I had the choice of getting the bubonic plague or playing this game again... I think I'd take the plague.
