"A fun game, but seemingly impossible to beat"
Intro
Some people say that there are no impossible games. I say they've never played this! I'm sure there is a way to finish it, but you have to be a combination of both really good and really lucky. Anyway, this was one of the first games I got for my SNES when I got it several years ago. It's a lot of fun, especially in two player mode.
Gimme Those VCR's!
In Super Smash TV, you play as a contestant on a game show in which you battle what seems to be literally hundreds of creatures and raving psychotic men for such fine prizes as cash, home versions of Smash TV (I could just see Milton Badley making a controversial home version complete with spiked bats!), VCR's, and a few other prizes. You can also find ten keys and enter a place called Pleasure Dome.
Basic Battle and the Like
The game plays a lot like the arcade version. You use the D-pad to move your character around the rooms while using the action buttons to attack in corresponding directions (in other words, X fires up, Y fires left, A fires right, and B fires down). The object of each room is to collect as much cash and prizes as possible while also trying to defeat all the enemies that are thrown at you. Once you have defeated them all, you move to the next room and keep repeating the process until you finally reach the boss. After defeating the boss, you go to the next level and play against new enemies and a different boss. There are three levels packed with loads of rooms and enemies.
Weapons
Throughout the game you get special weapons which are limited. The special weapons mostly consist of your basic rocket launchers, the spray gun (like on Contra, baby!), grenade launcher, etc.
Game Elements
The graphics aren't anything major, but they aren't really bad, either. They used a very good mix of colors anyway. The sounds are pretty good, seeing that they set the atmosphere just right. There are also voices (albeit small ones) in the game that sound pretty cool. The sound effects are awesome! The controls work just fine, surprisingly. You may be a bit lost with the firing buttons at first. After playing a bit, you'll eventually get used to them and learn how to whoop up on the opposition like nothing. The game is pretty fun to play. Just don't expect to finish it right away.
FINAL JUDGMENT
Graphics: Eh, okay 7/10
Sounds: Great sound effects paired with okay music 8/10
Controls: You could take a while, but all in all they are very good 9/10
Plot/Storyline: N/A
Gameplay: It's pretty fun! What more can I say? 8/10
All Together: 8/10
