Review by Doctrine Dark

"This game has classic written all over it."

Street Fighter 2 is considered a classic by many fighting game players such as myself. While it was the second game in the series this game made people fall in love with Street Fighter(Not to mention spend all of their money till they were broke). Much to the relief of many when the game hit the SNES it made some people's lives easier by not having them spend a whole weeks worth of quarters at the arcade. But does Street Fighter 2 still play good to this day? Read on.

Gameplay8/10
After all of these years SF2's gameplay still shines. While compared to today's fighting games SF2 may seem a little bland but when once you play it again you'll realize it's still fun even if it only has 8 characters. And who could forget the bonus stages in between certain matches where you had to smash the car.(The barrel breaking stage where barrels fall down on you is missing from the SNES version though). SF2's gameplay is still good almost after 9 years.

Control10/10
There were 3 punch buttons and 3 kick buttons. This would end up being the main control scheme in every Street Fighter after this one. So it is obvious that there is nothing wrong control wise.

Graphics8/10
The fighters look almost the same as they did in the arcade version. Backrounds although have some missing elements in them(Less spectators in Blanka's stage)look pretty nice. Graphicly the game looks swell even without the missing stuff from the arcade.

Sound7/10
Sound is good but not great. The music sounds good but pales in comparison to later Street Fighter games. The characters voices sound the same for the majority of the cast but it is not that bad of a thing because no one really noticed back in 1992. I did notice that the announcer is almost a nonexistent in the SNES version(He only calls out the round number and then Fight! and that's it). To sum it up the sound is all right.

Replay7/10
Because there are only 8 selectable characters replay value is moderate. Then again I guess beating the game again with the same character is not that bad.

Final Word
Although my final score for this game is a 7 make no mistake SF2 is a classic and is fun to play. I could have given this a higher score but maybe that is because I'am currently playing newer games like Marvel vs. Capcom 2. Nothing wrong with that right?
