Lufia & the Fortress of Doom

Review by The Great Gamer

"Great game that is definitely worth your time."

This is one of my favorite games for the SNES. The story, gameplay, and music are all great.

Gameplay 9/10: The battles are fun, although they can get repetitive if you get lost in one of the dungeons and you are stuck fighting enemies every few seconds. Some of the bosses are also quite hard so you have to be prepared for them or you could be defeated.

Graphics 8/10: The graphics are quite good for this game, but not as good as some of the other games of its time. Some of the spell animations look pretty cool, but some of them are boring.

Control 9/10: The control is great in this game. In battle, you have five different options to choose from. One problem though, if you choose to attack an enemy and that enemy is killed by another character before you attack, your attack will hit nothing, so you basically miss. This can get very annoying as the enemies get tougher.

Sound 9/10: I loved the boss music in the game. The regular battle music is pretty good also but it may get old since random battles are common in this game. There could have been some more music(like when you fight the Sinistrals, it's just normal boss music) but the music that is in the game is very good.

Story 10/10: Lufia has a great story. There are a few plot twists that may surprise you. The story starts out with you playing as Maxim, Guy, Selan, and Artea, the four warriors that first defeated the Sinistrals 99 years ago. They defeat the Sinistrals and bring peace to the world. But, one day, many years later, the hero of Lufia hears a rumor that someone had attacked a castle not too far away, so the hero decides to check it out and finds out that the Sinistrals have returned. You then go on a quest with three other characters to try and stop the Sinistrals again.

Replayability 9/10: What makes this game different from most other RPGs is that after you beat the game, you get a new mode called ''Try Again.'' In this mode you will gain four times the experience and gold. This makes the second time through much easier so you can spend more time in dungeons looking for things that you may have missed the first time through. Also, you can go through the Old Cave or try and find all the dragon eggs.

Rent or Buy?: I think you should buy the game. It may be a little tough to find, but it shouldn't cost too much.

Overall 9/10: Lufia is a great game that is well worth your time to play. Though battles can get quite repetitive in the game, they are still very fun. The graphics are pretty good and the replayability is pretty high. If you love RPGs, then this is a great game for you to play.
