Olympic Summer Games Atlanta 1996
Review by FByies
"Just your run of the mill Olympic game."
Ah, picked this game up a few years ago at Toys R Us. Don't know why, but I enjoy Olympic games for some reason. This one was really no different. But now that I look back on it, it really wasn't all that fun. Sure, the multi player was decent, but overall, just wasn't as fun as it used to be.
Graphics - 4/10
The games graphics really aren't all that spectacular. Especially considering this game was made towards the end of the Super Nintendo's life span, when games such as Donkey Kong Country were blowing people away with amazing graphics for a 16-bit system. Definitely not up to par.
Gameplay - 5/10
The gameplay is decent. Getting to compete in the different events(10 in all) allows for some action. But despite the 10 events, the game becomes very monotone while playing. The same events over and over, some very similar to each other really kills off any fun. Of course, invite a friend over and set back and play some multi player action. That'll spice things up a bit. But alas, only for awhile.
Competing against the computer isn't overly hard. The only real problem stemming from it is the fact that you have to rapidly push buttons. Which can really kill a controller fast, and cause a blister or two. Better find a good method of pushing the buttons when it comes down to speed. Be careful...the controls are a bit on the slow response side.
Audio - 4/10
Can't say a whole lot for the audio. It is nothing more than...average. Honestly, nothing really stands out about it. It is rather dull and bland. Just do like I do, and pop in an album while playing it.
Replay - 5/10
Olympic Summer Games does have a bit of replay value. Mainly because of the World Records that you can break. Those are always fun. The only problem is, they are reset each time you cut the game off. Eh, at least you and friends can compete for best times and scores.
Overall - 4/10
Overall this game is nothing more than a renter. It would be a complete waste of money if you were to buy this game. Unless perhaps you could pick it up at a pawn shop, or some other second hand place for a real cheap price. I wouldn't recommend paying anymore than $10 for this game. Hell, knock that down to $5.
