Review by Doctrine Dark

"It's Final Fight for the SNES but with Guy instead of Cody. Do I need to say anything else?"

Final Fight will always hold a special place in my heart always. Well I did happen to like the SNES translation of this arcade gem and it did feel like Final Fight indeed but because of some stuff taken out I just couldn't put it over or with the original arcade game. As you may know already one of the things taken out was Guy as a playable character and we only got Cody and Haggar. Well in the tradition of of making upgrades for some of their games Capcom released Final Fight Guy but instead of releasing it to video game store selves it was instead a Blockbuster Video exclusive that you could rent(Kind of like Clay Fighter Tournament Edition). The story in this game is similar to Final Fight where Jessica, Mike Haggar's daughter is kidnapped by the Mad Gear gang(Remember this is just an upgrade to Final Fight not a whole different game and for some trivia Capcom released a game called Mad Gear sometime before Final Fight). Well as always Haggar has to save his daughter but since Cody is taking a vacation in Japan(Out of all the places in the world why Japan not that he shouldn't?)Guy goes with him instead(Well at least in the arcade all three go and save Jessica but that's enough of that for now). I will cover the rest of the (minimal) changes once the review starts and that is right now.

Gameplay
Well Guy takes Cody's place here and that's the only real major change gameplay wise. I don't get it why couldn't Capcom add some other stuff do this as well. I mean there's still no two player mode and the industrial level is still missing. I don't know why Capcom didn't bother putting in the industrial level besides they could have replaced the bay area level with that(If they could replace Guy with Cody then I don't see why not). The gameplay still Final Fight which is a good thing because I liked the gameplay in it but since the gameplay is still the same it is also somewhat of a bad thing since most of the enemies are still in their same places(Why not mix things up a little like why not include some Andores in the first level or just have different enemy set ups all together)like remember Bred and Jake at the very beginning of the game well they are still at the beginning. Good but not great.

Graphics
Still the same here too almost. Guy's sprite looks like it does in the arcade but I don't like how they did his head because it looks kind of dumb but I guess they didn't want to totally re do it. Roxy and Poison are still not present here and like before their male counterparts Billy and Sid replace them(I just found out that the author of this one video game book entitled Game Over says that Roxy and Poison are really males and Nintendo did not want transsexuals in the American version. Just because some guy says they are male doesn't mean they are male). There was some animation added on to the neon signs in the west side stage and I think the audience shows some life in the arena where you fight those two Andores but that was it when it came to graphical changes. Well since they are almost the same as Final Fight's at least they are still pretty good.

Sound
Nothing new here either well except when you press start at the title screen you hear Guy yell out instead of Haggar. The music is the same and that goes with the majority of the voices. I think Guy's voice is new(to the SNES that is)and not recycled voice clips from Cody. Well they did a nice job with the sound still.

Control
Same as always with an attack and a jump button and when you press the two together you will do a self damaging special move. Guy's vertical Hurricane Kick is present and accounted for so he still plays the same as he always did. The control is still the same and besides did they really had to change the control set up? I think not.

Replay
Well there is a slightly alternated ending here(I will tell you that Jessica calls Haggar daddy here instead of father like in the original but if you wanna know the rest of the new ending then sorry because I'am not going to tell you the rest of it at least not here). Aside from that I can't really see if there is too much replay value here especially for those like me who already own the original game with Cody in it. I'd say it is moderate.

Final Word
If you don't have Final Fight for the SNES then I don't see why you should not pass this game up but if you happen to own it already then don't really bother you are basically buying the same game unless of course you happen to be a big Guy fan. If you want to play Final Fight the way it was ment to be then find the arcade game or if you happen to have a Sega CD(Which I don't) find a copy of that, or you can just wait for the Game Boy Advance version of Final Fight(Which I'am doing). Final Fight newbies can get their first fix of it here but if you played Final Fight for the SNES then chances are you played this game too.
