"I'm ashamed to say I played this"
Primal Rage puts you about 5 million years back where dinosaurs still ruled the world. And they had nothing better to do that fight between them just like their human counterparts would do much, much later. But apparently, dinosaurs were wiser than we had thought since they possessed good fighting skills and could even dish out combos which would take away 'a certain percentage of your life'. Wow !
There are 8 dinosaurs and they even have names too. Once you've made your choice, you are set to battle your away across until you make it to the end ! This game has the worst graphics I've ever seen in a SNES game. The characters themselves seem to have been made from mud and their animation really, really sucks. It seems that the programmers don't even know the meaning of the important word 'graphics' and I haven't noticed those amounts of impressive details that you can normally admire in most SNES titles. The backgrounds have no color and really, dark backgrounds would have been way better. At least, they would have enable you to see just how badly drawn the characters are so that you can laugh a great bit before throwing the game away (or destroying it in a fit of anger !). And don't even think of trying out one of the combos that the dinosaurs are supposed to be able to pull, your eyes are gonna fall down with the shock they're bound to receive !
The audio is not better with really lame themes. And I'm still not sure whether I can use the term 'music' here since what I've listened to doesn't come anywhere close to what music is supposed to be. To make up for this, you can listen to a vast array of slurps and glurps as well as groans of a very bad quality. Sound effects are just as lame, maybe because they tortured animals to make these sound effects.
The control is good enough and the moves are quick to come out but thay don't make up for the bad graphics. Even if Primal Rage has good controls, they aren't enough to make you forget about the graphics and sound effects which are bound to make you feel disgusted after only a couple of minutes.
Primal Rage has very little gameplay to offer. Maybe you'll feel like beating the game once just to see the credits and endings but it's doesn't go further than that. And the good point of putting dinosaurs that can pull out combos hasn't been worked on enough to make a least a good attempt at what is supposed to be a beat-em-up. You won't have much fun making your way through the battles and will most likely throw it away in exasperation.
Overall, Primal Rage doesn't do any honor to the SNES and the console would be much better without it. Well, we can at least pretend it never came out…Just avoid this game and you should be fine. Meanwhile, I'm going to disinfect my console just in case.
