King of the Monsters 2
Review by DomaDragoon
"Average game with a few faults"
There are few things that I am proud of in my life. The fact that I actually played this ''game'' without collapsing from the pain is one of them. I wanted to like this game, I really did. (Honest!) But there were a few faults the size of the San Andreas that just dragged it down into the chasm of mediocre.
Plot: One of my major gripes. There are a group of aliens (well, actually, I only saw one) that look like brains with eyes. They want to destroy the Earth. That's bad. The only thing that stands in their way is a group of 3 large monsters, whose idea of saving the planet is destroying everything around them. Now, if it was just the aliens and their monstrous creations against our intrepid heroes, there wouldn't be much of a problem: the force of our monster kings would crush them. But there are these stupid things on the Earth called ''humans''. Rather than help out the good monsters by attacking the aliens, they try to kill your character. Real genius work, guys. This is a game that needs little plot, but a little description about what the spoony is going on would help. 5/10
Graphics: I'm not a graphics guy, but I thought that they did a good job in this one. Both the enemies and heroes are very large, and easily visible. 7.5/10
Sound: Aaargh! Heeyah! (unintelligible cry) Yes, these are pretty much the only sound effects you'll hear in the entire game. Folks, there's a mute button on your TV for a reason, and this is as good a reason as any. The music was a bit better, but still nowhere near quality. 3.5/10
Gameplay: Charge. Hit. Die. Repeat. Yes, it's an exercise in monotony. Every single fight ends up the same. I still can't figure out why it was decided to show you the buttons you have to press EVERY TIME you get knocked down, or enter a struggle. Getting to the bosses is the problem, not because of any difficult enemies in the way, but because the timer is always much too fast! Come on, I want to plan strategy, not just wail on the enemy before time runs out and I die! 3/10
Difficulty: I found this game to be surprisingly hard, despite the cartoonish feel. This is due to 2 reasons:
1.The spoony timer, that keeps on tick tick ticking away my lives.
2. The fact that the bosses have such a huge advantage in life that it isn't funny. In fact, the last level is one of the hardest action sequences that I've played in a long time... Then again, it took 3 hours to beat it all. 6/10
Replayability: None. Absolutely none. The 2-player mode is horrible, and the ending is forgettable. 0/10
Final Verdict: This game is definitely a rental. I wouldn't buy it with my own money unless you paid me. As a rental, though, it can occupy you for a day or two. 5/10
