"Kirby is indeed super in Kirby Super Star"
Kirby's Super Star is one of those games that shines with greatness and simply added further to the incredible game library of the Super Nintendo. This game is a real classic and probably the best title in the entire series of Kirby games.
GAMEPLAY:
Kirby Super Star is a 2D action side scroller in which you take on the role of Kirby the hero of Dream Land. Kirby can run, float, and slide to defeat his enemies but his greatest move is his ability to suck up enemies and copy their special powers. These special abilities allow him to breath fire, wield a giant hammer, swing a mighty sword, generate a powerful electric shock, shoot a magic energy beam, and become a whirling tornado just to name a few. The play control is excellent and it is easy to learn the basic moves but learning how to perform all off the special abilities can be more challenging, luckily this is half the fun of the game. Kirby Super Star is actually eight games in one and all of them are a load of fun to play. The eight games in Kirby Super Star include Spring Breeze (a game similar to the original Kirby's Dream Land for GameBoy in which you must defeat king Dedede), Dyna Blade (a game where you must stop a giant bird from ruining crops), The Great Cave Offensive (where you take on the role of an archeologist/explorer and must recover priceless artifacts), Gourmet Race (in this game you race king Dedede to the finish line while trying to collect as much food as possible to gain extra points), Revenge Of Meta Knight (you must defeat a group of pirates who are trying to take over Dream Land), Milky Way Wishes (you travel to different planets and obtain special abilities to give you more power), and Megaton Punch and Samurai Kirby (in both games you go one on one with an opponent).
STORY:
Each individual game has it's own story and while none are spectacular they are good enough for an action game like Kirby Super Star. Gameplay is where the fun is.
AUDIO/VIDEO:
The sound and music in Kirby Super Star are very good. The sound quality is excellent and the music is enjoyable to listen to and is well done (in fact some of it is quite catchy). Some of the tunes are remixed versions of songs from earlier Kirby games, so if you've played other Kirby games you may hear some familiar music. All in all music and sound was well done in this game. The Graphics are 2D and the style of the animation shares a resemblance to the game Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. There is lots of detail and everything moves smoothly. The Graphics are also great.
REPLAY ABILITY:
This game is a blast to play and you will probably play it through a couple of times simply because it is so much fun experimenting with the different abilities that Kirby can use. This game can also be played with two players if you have a second controller, and if you can I highly recommend playing this game with two players since this can make it twice as fun. If you buy this game you won't get tired of it quickly.
TO BUY OR RENT?:
Even if you could still rent Super NES games I still would recommend buying this game simply because it is so much fun to play. Unfortunately Kirby Super Star was released near the end of the SNES's life (around mid 1996) so not that many copies were made, making this game a bit rare. However if can find it pick this one up.
