"Don't judge a game by its sales"

This is one of the worst selling games of all time. That is really a shame because this is a great game. It is a side-scroller with RPG elements. It is a spin-off of the more popular Ghosts 'N Goblins series. It has NES and Gameboy prequals. One week this game managed to generate negative sales, which is beyond my comprehension. Enough factoids, on to the review!

Graphics: 8/10
This game has great graphics for its time. The graphics are like a more detailed Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. There are also cool special effects like transparencies. The overworld has you flying in 3-D with great mode 7. The graphics won't make your jaw drop, but they get the job done and convey the games gothic feel well.

Sound: 8/10
I rarely notice game sound, and Demon's Crest is no exception. The music is like Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts which is good, but not something you'll hum. The music fits in with the games gothic theme, but isn't exceptional.

Gameplay: 9/10
Now, the most important part of the review. The gameplay in Demon's Crest is mostly a action/platformer, but there are RPG elements. You can buy potions and spells in shops on the overworld to use. You can also get different crests that turn you into a different gargoyle with different abilities. That is the main draw of the game: each level has a hidden level in it. The game may look small at first, but if you find all the hidden abilities and levels it will last you a long time. It may at first look like there are only four levels, but there are really over 12 long levels. The bosses are also great. Overall, this game takes strategy and reflexes and has great gameplay.

Scores:
Graphics: 8/10
Sound: 8/10
Gameplay: 9/10
Overall: (not an average) 9/10

Conclusion
This is a great underrated and little known game. You may have a hard time finding it, but if you do make sure to get it.
