"This game rocks"
Top Gear is an awesome Super Nintendo arcade racing game. Released back in 1992 or 1993 I'm not sure which.
-Game play- One word awesome. Its kinda like other arcade racers. You race on Different tracks in different races. After each race you gain points which help place you and decide if your going to move on to the next bracket. But Top Gear adds some new things. At the beginning of the game you select how many players one or two, name yourself, choose automatic or manual transmition, your control scheme, and your car. You have a choice between four cars each with varying traction speeds and gas mileage. At the begining of each race you are given three nitros. The use of a limited amount of gas in this game is what makes it cool. You may have to pit during the race and using nitros burns more gas.In single player mode you race against eighteen stupid cars and one smart car. In two player its the same except for the other player takes the place of the smart car. As I said the gameplay is awesome.
-Sound Music- Sound effects are what you would expect in a Super Nintendo racer. Engine sounds tire squeels a sound for when you hit things and a sound for when a nitro is used nothing above average. But the music rocks. All of the music has a great beat to it and is perfect to fit the competitive mood for racing. The only downside to racing is that there are very few tunes to listen to. Only about five for racing and a bracket victory tune is all the music there is.
-Graphics- Not that great. But, good considering its age. The cars are two dimesional and the tracks have a three dimesional look to them. The cars themselves dont move much instead the tracks move to simulate the car movement. There are some nice effects though like change from night to day or day to night in the middle of a race and headlights turning on and off.
In the en Top Gear is an awesome game. The gameplay is good and the music rocks. A few more tunes and better graohics are the only thing that could possibly make this game better. If you enjoy arcade racers and dont really mind the fact that this game is pushing eight or nine years old then you should deffinatly check this game out.
