Chuck Rock

Introduction

I'm a fan of action/platform games. I love all the Mega Man games and Mario is my favorite! So, I know a bad platformer when I see one and Chuck Rock, developed by CORE (Tomb Raider, Fighting Force), is a BAD platformer. The game's graphics are probably the only decent thing in this game. The rest is all a nightmare. The gameplay is frustrating, the music makes you cringe... The game is absolutely pointless!

Graphics B-

The graphics were pretty decent. The sprites and the colors were well used, except it's a little cartoonish for me. Nothing is visually entertaining. It's basically the same visuals level after level after level. I mean, come on! Give me something new to look at, please! But, the bosses and enemies look fairly decent.

Music/Sound F

This is some pretty bad music and sound F/X. I loathe the stupid little drums in the background playing the same tune over and over again. Chuck Rock, when he gets hurt by an enemy, makes an annoying noise that I just can't stand. Plus, that cheesy ''Unga Bunga'' is what he says all the time. IF you're gonna play this game, I would keep the TV on mute, because the music and sound is a MAJOR TURNOFF.

Gameplay F+

Wow. This is a bad platformer. The action in it is crap. You fight the same enemies on almost every level, you do the same action on every level. Kill Enemies. Kill Boss. Move on. No secret items to collect. Your score consists of how many enemies you kill and completing stages. No innovation what so ever. Just plain boring crap. How can you stay involved in a platformer this dull?

A platformer is supposed to have a storyline, it doesn't have to be involving but it should have one to keep the gamer interested, Chuck Rock delivers no story. It tries to, but you are never quite sure why you are actually going through these pointless levels.

Replay Value F

I'll be damned if I ever play this game again. I never beat it because it was extremely stupid. It didn't keep me interested long enough. It has NO CONTINUES, and if you ever beat it, there is nothing else to do. I didn't find any secrets at all in the game. Replaying this game would be utter madness.

Conclusion

Wasted, wasted money for game companies. How could Nintendo let a game like this get published? This game is so old anyway, it's probably not a problem for gamers anymore. But, you must take my advice. If you see this game lying at the bottom of a bargain bin for ten dollars, don't waste that money. This game is a worthless piece of crap that shouldn't be played by anyone! It's a BAD, VERY BAD platformer!
