"One word: Why?"

This port of Doom makes Doom look like crap. I don't know what ID was thinking when they ported Doom on a 16 bit cartage. I had bought this game for SNES back in 1999. I remember how disappointed I was. I was impressed at the same time too, only at the fact that it wasn't as shitty as I thought it would be, but it was still VERY shitty...

Gameplay 8/10: This is the only thing that hasn't hardly changed from all the other ports, and the real game itself. It's just a tad bit slower. And you get stuck on walls to much (if your walking next to them).

Graphics 3/10: Very pixelated, very dull. The monsters are blurs when your not to far away from them, you almost can't tell what they are, and when your close to them, they are a bunch of fuzzy blocks, the same goes for items. The floor and ceiling textures have been taken out, which means the lava and that other green stuff is just a one colored floor that doesn't move (to tell u if it's lava or that green stuff). The walls are ok, but nothing special.

Sound 6/10: Well, the gun blasts seem to have a delayed reaction. Like the chain gun, it sounds like shooting the pistol 5 times really fast and then stoping and starting again. When ever you press the button to click on stuff when your not near a wall, you still make the ''ugh'' noise. The rest is the same as the PC, but toned down a whole lot. The music is very good.

Control 7/10: The control is simple and easy, nothing hard here. It may be a pain sometimes though.

The only thing that I thought was good about this game was the fact that the cartage was red, and it gives you the option to ''Restart Level'' (which I don't recall being in any of the other Doom ports, PC too). When you put the game in, it shows you all the logos, and then just starts you right off in the game, no title screen. You have to pause the game and go to ''New Game''. And theres no saving and no passwords, and no codes codes. And seeing that there is no saving and no passwords, if your far in a certain episode, and you turn the game off, it means your have to play it all over again. What really makes no sence is that you can only play Episode 2 and Episode 3 on certain difficulties. And seeing that there is no codes, Episode 3 is almost unplayable, seeing that you can only choose from ''Ultra Violence'' and ''Nightmare''. I don't see why ID even made this version. This game is garbage, avoid buying this game at all costs, it's not even good for renting, just find the ROM to this game and download it, hell, thats not even worth the time. Just buy it for the PC, or one of the other ports, anything but this version.

Final Rating: 1/10
