"The forces of Hell did a number on this one"

Introduction:
Everyone and there little pet goldfish has heard about DOOM. The action-packed, violent first-person shooter became an instant hit on the PC. Ah, but PCs were expensive, and Consoles weren't. So it was obviously logical to port DOOM down to the SNES, right? Right? Hello?

Story: 7/10
Basically, you're a big, tough-guy space marine. The forces of Hell have invaded the bases on Mars' moons. You must destroy them in creative (and messy) ways.

That may seem a tad on the short side, but keep in mind that the game manual description is less than 100 words. Not much to elaborate on, eh?

Pros:
*It was creative at the time
Cons:
*It was creative at the time? o.0

Graphics: 2/10
Why? Why? Why? Ugh, obviously the good folks at id knew that the SNES wasn't as powerful as the home PC. They, however, didn't realize crap when they saw it. The most glaring flaw here is the fact that the floors aren't texture-mapped. This makes it quite difficult to tell the difference between a pool of radioactive waste and a grassy area. As if this weren't enough, the team tried (and I stress ''tried'') to do dynamic lighting on the SNES's limited hardware. The result? 10 frames per second (3 when a lot of Demons are on screen). Plus, the graphics are extremely blurry, making it near impossible to aim your weapon at an enemy. In summary? Complete and utter crap.

Pros:
*Um.....
Cons:
*Too many to list

Sound: 5/10
Think a scratchier, metallic version of the PC sound. The sound f/x often play after you fire your weapon. The music is the same as the PC version.

Pros:
*Realistic sounds
Cons:
*Fuzzy, low quality f/x
*Audio seems out of sync with what's going on

Gameplay: 1/10
ARGH! The porting process completely destroyed all the fun of DOOM. The programming is very sloppy. I found myself getting stuck in walls a lot. The control is decent, but the monster AI is far too cheap. They're attacks are too strong (a single bullet doing 50% damage to me? What the...), and the lack of a save feature just prolongs the agony.

Pros:
*If you're drunk, you might not notice how terrible it is.
Cons:
*Lousy programming completely destroys the DOOM experience

Conclusion
DOOM was great on PC, but is just pain terrible on SNES. Stay well away from this piece of trash unless you have masochistic (or suicidal) tendencies. The only redeeming feature? The cartridge is red. Thank you, id, for spending your money on making the game playable, instead of wasting it on some stupid gimmick.

OVERALL: 2/10
This is just depressing.
