Review by Muchorattler

"*They're creepy and they're kookey*....okay, that's enough."

This was such a cool movie back in the day, and also made a pretty cool game too. So lets all sit back and snap our fingers while reading my review, shall we?

Story: 7/10
Apparently all of your family members have been captured and held against their will (duh!), all except Lurch, but he's not really ''family'', so he doesn't count. It's up to you as Gomez to save the day and rescue everyone from the clutches of evil, WHEEEEEE!!! It doesn't exactly follow the story line of the movie, like....at all, but it's kind of good and at least gives you a reason to get your butt kicked by a giant bird.

Graphics: 10/10
Gomez is really funny looking, HA HA HA....err, sorry. Everything is cartoony and causes the Addams Family to look overly friendly. The colors are bright and clear and are detailed just about as much as any SNES game can possibly be. The backgrounds and rooms look as creepy as they should, but also look kind of on the happy side (think of it, there's a freezer level). Overall the graphics look very good and don't have any bit of drearyness like what you'd expect from this kind of game.

Gameplay: 8/10
Gomez reacts to the controls pretty well with just one simple problem.....jumping! So many games that I've played have had something wrong with the jumping controls, but this one really takes the cake! If you have an item such as the sword or ball-thingy, try jumping while attempting to use it......see, nothing happens, you don't go anywhere and will probably fall to your death or something. It's great that you get to use items and have many ways to power-up (there's a special room to find a truckload of those goodies, hee hee!), but it just royally sucks that you can't jump with them, I mean, what if you accidentally push that button??? Anyway, it's kind of a minor flaw and I know I'm making way too big a deal of it. Besides that, everything plays like a charm!

Sound: 8/10
You've got your Addams Family theme, you've got your corny elevator-sounding music, and you've got your creepy sounding organ notes, it's kind of funny how all this bad music actually sounds good in this game. The sound effects aren't the best, but they get the job done. The sword sounds like a swishing sword, enemies make a popping sound when you kill them, and when you get hurt you'll hear the ever popular ''HONK''. They aren't too annoying, which is a good thing, so don't worry about you're head exploding out of agony.

Replay: 7/10
I have played through this game many times after beating it and am sure many other people will even though there's really no point. There is sort of a high difficulty in this game, so it's not like you're going to finish it the first time through in one day or anything. You probably won't go back to it for a while, but you probably will sometime just to kill a few hours or something.

Overall: 8/10
A fun little game that has almost nothing to do with the movie, not like that's necessarily a bad thing. You can probably find this game at a flea market or a store that sells used games, and if you do then it will be a very worthy purchase. You'll love this game even if you hated the movie, but beware, it can get very frustrating, but if you like adventure games and/or platformers, then you should definitely check this out.
