"The Mother of all Double Dragons....but were's Marian?!"
Well, this is it the last of the ''true'' Double Dragons and the best of them all. This proves that final chapter of a game always comes out best. Sadly, Super Double Dragon was only for the Super Nintendo, but it pretty much didn't matter to me, because I had the SNES. There was another version of SDD called ''Return Of Double Dragon: The Sleeping Dragon Has Awoke''. It had a longer last mission thad SDD, because while this game was still being made by Technos Corp., Tradewest Corp., company that SDD was licenced to, put it out on the market before Technos could finish the game. As a result, SDD was only 95% of the game that RODD is, but that no biggie. The only problem is the games and their storylines don't follow each other. In the manual and on the box cover the storyline claims that Billy Lee's girlfriend, Marian, has been kidnapped again by the Shadow Warriors. But this is the problem, Marian does not make any appearance at any time in the game. But, we are led to believe that she was kidnapped again, yeah, right. That B.S. to the highest degree! They could have at least made a storyline that tells why Marian does not appear in the game if they was going to drop her, instead of deceiving all DD fans. But, dispite the flaws SDD became one of the best SNES game of today. Now on with the review.
Gameplay: 10
In SDD, the enemies are much harder to kill than in DD3 and they can be a major pain in lagre numbers. Knives are deadlier than ever, and bombs will kill you in one blast. However, in RODD, everything is milder. Enemies are half as hard and the power of knives and bombs are toned down a bit. The games also have Dragon power bars for gamers to use, if the bar is filled 1/4 way or a little bit, you can preform a spin punch or spin kick, if filled 1/2 way you can preform a cyclone spin kick, and if filled all the way, you can go into Anger mode, where you can knock down an enemy with one punch or kick. These are Billy and Jimmy Lee's techniques for both games: punch, kick, uppercut, roundhouse kick, low-to-high kick, side kick, back kick, hair grab and knee or punch, overhead punch, front kick, over shoulder throw, block, arm grab and punch or kick, mounted backhands, flapping wing kicks, jump kick, reverse jump kick, and missile jump kick.
Story: 3
Since the storyline is the opposite of the game, I'll give you one of my making 1st and 2nd person style.
Marian: Billy! Jimmy! I need your help, I'm in trouble.
Billy: Why? Whats a matter?
Marian: I and the boys investigated the Duke dojo. Two weeks ago, our officials have heard that people said that Williams and Lopar are back in town and they later had sided with the Duke dojo master, Duke, to create a new group of Shadow Warriors.
Jimmy: What? Those shadow creeps again? Some people never learn.
Billy: Quiet Jimmy! Go on Marian.
Marian: We also found out that the members of the duke dojo are dealing in drug trafficking and taking over other dojos so they can reign as number one. The last thing we found out that they are planning to take over the Dragon dojo, your dojo, and take over the whole entire city. Then, someone spoted us. So we had to flee with our lives. We made it back to the police station with all the evidence we could gather. Then 30 minutes later, the police station was under attack by the Shadow Warriors. We managed to fight them off but, they killed 15 of our boys. After that, I was afraid that they would come after me. Thats why I came to you.
Billy: Well, you'll be safe here. I hear my old friend, Chintaise, is in town. I'll call him over to take care of you and the dojo.
Jimmy: Drug trafficking, taking over dojos, and cop killing! These guys have gone too far!
Billy: It's time we teach these guys a lesson, nobody is going to take over this dojo or the city. It's time the Shadow Warriors pay the piper!
Audio/Video: 10
The characters almost look real, the scenery was crisp and clean, and the sound was the best I ever heard.
