"You want a good Fatal Fury game? Get yourself a Sega Genesis."
I would just like to say that if you are thinking of buying this game, and you don't have it for Sega, definitely get it for Sega. This game has loading time, difficult controls, and horrid multiplayer mode. But for the price you can find this game for now, I say get it anyway.
Controls(3/10), Now you have your standard D-pad used for going forward, backward, and jumping. That's all great, but this games #1 drawback is the difficulty of doing the fighters special attacks. Most are about a 3 or 4 button combo involving the d-pad and the y or b button. The problem is, you can go through the motions a million times without seeing the move. It is very difficult to execute the move perfectly. Don't even get me started how much you're screwed if you don't have the Instruction Booklet. Don't get me wrong, I like this site very much, but could we PLEASE get someone to make a legible move list for this game?
Gameplay(6/10), When you actually get good timing and execute the moves regularly, this games gameplay is great. But when you are having a tough time, you will hate this game. If you are playing alone, you basically go through a fighting tournament. You have the choice of 3 fighters, yes that's right, only 3! Joe Higashi, Terry Bogard, and Andy Bogard. I haven't beaten the tournament yet,(actually getting far is quite difficult,) so I don't know how it ends. But it probably is adequate just like the rest of the game.
Multiplayer(1/10), This is the #2 drawback of this game. Some genius over at Takara thought it would be a good idea to make the multiplayer mode for the SNES version a horrible piece of trash. Now if you are player one, you can choose from the original 3 guys like the single player mode, but only the second player can choose to play as the enemies and the original 3. If any of you have played the Sega version, you would know that you can choose from every single fighter in the game for multiplayer, you better believe it's not the same for snes. You can choose from about 6 enemies, where in the Sega version you could chose from many more.
I'm not a big expert on fighting games for the SNES, but I'm sure you could probably find a better game than this one. But with Internet auction sites selling games so cheaply nowadays, I say this game is worth buying. IF you have both a Sega Genesis and a Super Nintendo and are pondering which system to buy this game for; I say go with the Genesis version. It is more fun in every way.
