Harvest Moon

Review by YankeeJTC

"A pretty cool SNES game that gets you hooked"

A lot of people read about this game, find out it's about farming, and immediately pass it off as boring. I have to admit I was skeptical about how good the game would be, but I gave it a try and liked what I found. In the days of Doom, Quake, and Tomb Raider, it's nice to see a game that doesn't have you hacking, shooting, or blowing people up can still be really interesting. Although the main theme of this game is farming, there's also involvement with people, 5 different girls who you can date, maybe marry, and possibly have a baby with. There are also a lot of extras and secrets, including having your house expanded twice, having pets, such as a dog and a horse who also are useful, and finding better tools. There are also over 10 endings depending on how well you do in the game. The theme of the game is your parents leave you to run the farm for 2 years, and from there you meet a lot of people, buy and harvest different crops, make money off of cows and chickens, and a lot more. In the game, one year is composed of 4 seasons, except the seasons are 30 days each. You have a lot of space to work with, which allows you to customize how your farms look. The only bad thing about the game is after you get married and have a baby, the game kinda lost it's interest. I would still recommend it highly and I can't wait until Harvest Moon 64 comes out, because if it's anything like this one, I know it'll be a good buy.

Graphics: 7/10 (one of the only downfalls these graphics are kinda blah)

Sound: 7/10 (I wouldn't call it an award winning soundtrack)

Control 8/10 (Very simple and easy)

Fun Factor: 10/10 (I was hooked for hours)

Overall: 8/10
