"The Underdog Of SNES Strategy"
Introduction: Gemfire, It is the underdog of the strategy games for SNES. Thats too bad, because this game is awesome and addictive. I think it is the best for the SNES. This game is a true gem, and lso a needle in a haystack. It is really hard to find. I just go to my Bud's house and play it because his SNES still works.
I will score it in the following categories:
Graphics: Well, for the Super Nintendo the graphics are suprisingly good. The world map characters and the menus are perfectly tuned to perfection, as they are colorful, and easy to navigate. The battle fields are simple, but then the animations are nice. I like the wizards spells, and the 5th unit animations.
Sound: The sound is perfectly fitting for a medevil game like Gemfire. It gets repetive after a few hours, but is still good.
Controls: Easy controls pretty much sums it all up. It is not a bad thing, because you want simple controls for a strategy game. Basically you just move the d-pad and press A to select stuff. Then off you go.
Replayability: There are a few diffrent scenarios to choose from which have different stories to them. I replayed them all and each scenario is diffrent. If you like strategy games you will definetly want to.
Story: The story is deep and involving. Plus you can change it depending what family you are. It is basically war for territory. You build up armies and conquer the world map and hire new people. There are wizards that you can accuire also.
Characters: There are many characters, each from diffrent familes, their is kings, queens, lords, dukes, you name it. My personal favorite is Lord Wolfen. There are knights, cavalry, archers, and 5th units. many 5th units are available for hire. some might desert you though.
Conclusion: I give this game a 10, because it is a masterpiece from Koei entertainment. Too bad this game is overlooked by about everyone and no ones heard of it before. It is extremely fun and addictive, and also time consuming. I have lots of free time because I have no friends, and you might want to say goodbye to some of yours when you play this.
Rent, Buy, Forget? Buy it if you can find this true gem. Look everywhere, Funco Land, Planet X, Babbage's, Electronics Boutique, you might find it. It will probaly only cost 5-10 dollars so it is a steal. It is better than some PSX strategy games.
The Verdict: 10/10 Wonderful Game. Buy It?
