"Just like the Nes game, but better"

Everybody loves the Battletoads. Those loveable giant frogs who fight with outlandish moves, and ferocious attacks. This time, their antagonist (Dark Queen) teams up with the Double Dragon's antagonist (Shadow Boss) to form an evil, unholy alliance. So what's a 'toad to do? Team up with the Double Dragons of course! Although the game is called "Battletoads & Double Dragons", it's mainly a Battletoads game with the Double Dragons just thrown in.

If you've played the Nes version, you've played this version too. You get to choose from either of the two Dragons, or any of the three Battletoads to face off against Dark Queen and Shadow Boss. The 'toads all have the same moves and abilities, and the Double Dragons' abilities are the same as well. And although the 'toad moves and the Dragon moves look differently, they are basically the same. So what you end up with is five selectible characters that are all basically the same. Oh well, it's still fun!

The graphics in this game are a major touch up from the graphics that the Nes version had. The characters all look much better, as do the levels and the enemies. The animation flows smoother and the music sounds better in this version as well. The game play is essentially the same though.

It may seem as though this game would get repetitive beating up guys all the time, but it never does. The enemies are varied, and the levels are too. You can ride down turbo cables, hop in hover bikes, and there's even a level based on Asteroids! With all this variety, how can anybody get bored??

The bottom line is this: this is a fantastic beat 'em up for the Snes. Although the game is rather short, you'll have the time of your life going through it (times that by two if you have a partner with you). The game is a great rent, but if you buy it, you may find yourself out of things to do.
