Review by Rev Ray Cool
"Have some nice, destructive mech action with this game"
Cybernator is a game filled with many things to destroy. This game is all destruction, and that is pretty much it. But it is presented nicely.
Graphics 10/10
Beautiful graphics, each level has its own personal feel. Can't say much about walking around but wow. Very detailed enemies and levels, and pixels are hardly noticably. What I really love here are both the explosions and the anime like cutscenes. Even though those "anime cutscenes" have only moving mouths, they are very well drawn, some even better than Sega CD! But, you'll see VERY little of them. And there are so many explosions in this game from destroying a small robot to destroying entire bases, the explosions are fiery beauty.
Controls 7/10
They can truly be annoying, ironic that in the manual, in the storyline it said "many have died trying to operate these things (Cybernators, your robot you use to blow up things)." Shuffling through weapons can be annoying since they shuffle too fast and you can pass them too easily in the heat of battle. You can pause and shuffle through but still, who thinks to pause in a fierce fight? Aiming can be a little annoying as well, your gun will move when you do so, sometimes, you can crash into enemies while aiming at them. There is a button where you can hold the gun at its position but fighting and holding it can really put some annoying aches in your fingers, making you want to get your hand off the button for some relief. Other than that, you can memorize controls easily, not too hard to forget what's what.
Plot 10/10
We have a plot here that WILL be our problem in the future if it continues. There are two major colonies, the Earth and the Moon. The Axis forces have the Earth, while the Federation has the Moon. But, there is so little fossil fuel left, that war has sprung to obtain the last amounts. You play as a Cybernator pilot in the Federation. Cybernators are robots that were used previously by space pirates to raid ships. They have great fighting potential, but using it is extremely difficult, some losing their lives in order to use it. But, you go still go forward, knowing the fact that you will fight a force that is way greater in number than you are...
Sound 9/10
Yep, everything fits here. You robot makes metal rubbing on metal sort of sounds when it moves, booster sounds, gun fire, laser fire, especially the explosive sounds. Music fits well too, from dangerous area music to action music. What I didn't like that the music wasn't really music, just some cheap sounds put together. For example, the "dangerous area music" sounded more like humming than a true, catchy, great tune to whistle to type of music.
Gameplay 9/10
I love the destruction I can inflict on everything, I can even dent the walls if I really wanted to. I loved to destroy everything, from small tiny little soldiers to gigantic to space shuttles. I loved to make everything just... explode! But this is all action, there is NO puzzles, NO mazes or anything, just plain walk around shooting at everything. But it does get more and more difficult as the stages go by. Replay this whenever you get bored and have absolutely nothing better to do, the destruction will keep you interested for about one or two hours.
Well, if you love pure destruction, you'll love this. If you love all action and nothing else, this is your game. This is all destructive action, for little brain and mostly skill. It is even a good "if you have nothing better to do, play this" sort of game. This is a great action game with little thinking involved, but also needs some fast, skillful hands.
