"One of the better SNES basketball games"

NBA Live 97 is a good all-around basketball game for the SNES.

It has a rarely seen viewpoint: a 3/4 view; most games have overhead or side views. The ability to create players is phenominal. You can choose the player's height, weight, college, number, name, along with many other options.

It has individual team rankings ranking a teams Overall, Rebounding, Defense, Scoring and Ball Control among the other NBA teams. The rosters are accurate for 1997, as are the logos, stadiums and jerseys. It also includes signature dunks, something many new games now have.

The Graphics are great, with players sizes accurately interpreted, although on occasion, a 6' guard will block a 7'2" center's shot. The 95-96 season stats are included, along with player rankings in free throws, dunking, blocks, and many more. It also has season stats so when you play a season, it keeps track of the above rankings. You can also create a coach that keeps the team stats for one game and the season.

Game Play is easy with a little practice. It gets confusing moving with the control pad in angles (down-left, etc.) to make them move, but it's pretty good anyway. Shooting is easy; a tap of a button and the shot is underway, and that same button shoots dunks, layups, jumpers and the occasional 3.

Sound is OK, but the crowd noise is monotonous and gets annoying after a long time of playing. Fortunately, the game includes options to turn off music and crowd noise, although they still cheer when a shot is made, and boo when there is a foul. Options; this game has many of them. 28, 56, and 82 game seasons, fouls, out-of-bounds, 3 in the key, and many more make this game one of the most customizable. 3 difficulty levels make the game fun for newbies and veterans. Playoffs are also included, and the teams in can be changed, as well as the games played per series. All these reasons are why NBA live 97 is one of the best NBA games for the SNES.
