"Half wrestling, half fighting"

In Saturday Night Slam Masters, Capcom had blended fighting and wrestling. The result is not a bad game. The action in Slam Masters takes place in a wrestling ring. Combat can take place inside and outside the ring. Victories are acheived by pinfall or submission. Haggar from the Final Fight series makes an appearance here. The two boss characters can also be used as playable characters.

Graphics: 7/10

On par with the Final Fight series. Decent sized sprites, average animation, varied characters. The ring entrances are a nice touch.

Sound: 7/10

Again, average. The usual audibles are present, and the music is OK, but nothing remarkable.

Gameplay: 8/10

The characters are well varied, each having their strengths and weaknesses. The game is not too difficult on the one player mode. Other options include a two player mode and a four player battle royal, in which four players compete in the ring at the same time. The variety of moves available to be executed is adequate, and the characters are more or less balanced. Weapons can be retrieved from outside the ring and brought inside and used.

Replay: 8/10

This game is always fun to play with a friend, as you can team up or battle each other. This is what keeps the game fresh once the single player mode has been conquered. Not only could this game be classified as a wrestling game, to a degree it is also a fighting game, and when playing with a friend, it takes on the persona of a Street Fighter- type game (another Capcom offering, ironically enough).

Overall: 7/10

A unique blend of fighting and wrestling, and a moderately successful one at that. I wouldn't classify this game as bad, but it's not great either. Probably a rental only.
