"Bad Wrestling Game, Bad WCW Time Period Too"

Ahh, WCW - the internet wrestling fan's favorite company. WCW has been through more problems since being purchased in 1989 by Ted Turner from Jim Crockket than Nintendo has delayed game launches. Although WCW Superbrawl Wrestling was released in 1994 by FCI, it was being planned in 1993. Did I mention that WCW lost over $13,000,000 in that fiscal year? Although the game isn't as bad as that, a lot of the skits WCW put on during that time were.

In WCW Superbrawl Wrestling you get to choose from twelve different wrestlers, such as Sting, Vader, Dustin Rhodes and The Steiner Brothers. And for all you internet smart marks out there, HULK HOGAN ISN'T IN HERE! You can duke it out on your own, against a friend, or team up for a tag team match. You get to customize rules and timing as well. The wrestler's images are digitized, as are some of their favorite battle cries.

The graphics are just so-so. The sprites are large and well rendered but they move quite stiffly. You get to use the standard array of wrestling moves, but it can be quite hard to line up with your opponent to do the move in the first place. The control is sub-par, which can make things frustrating sometimes. The sounds are average. There are very few sound effects and the music is boring.

WCW Superbrawl Wrestling was an average game when it was first released and when you compare it to what is available today it looks pretty bad. Unless you're like me and you have to own every wrestling game ever made, don't bother.
