"Not as good as Royal Rumble or Raw..........."

WWF Super Wrestlemania was the first WWF game for the SNES. It was also the worst, with the possible exception of WWF Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game. There are ten selectable wrestlers: Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage, Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase, Hawk, Animal, Earthquake, Typhoon, Jake Roberts, Sid Justice and the Undertaker. The old grapple system is used, meaning you tie up with your opponent and madly tap buttons. Whoever taps faster wins the lockup and executes the move. This is a one or two player game, and available modes include a one-on-one, two-on-two or Survivor Series match, in which two teams of four battle each other. When a man is pinned, his team continues on. Play continues until all the members of one team are eliminated.

Graphics: 7/10

Not much different than Royal Rumble or Raw, but they are slightly inferior. The moves look OK, but nothing special.

Sound: 6/10

Pretty much non-existant in the music category, but the sound effects are decent. Wrestlers slam off the mat and punch each other with realistic sounds accompanying both.

Gameplay: 6/10

Similar to Royal Rumble and Raw, and that can be a good or bad thing. It's good in the way that it lets you execute many different maneuvers, but it's bad because it gets repetitive and boring. Your hand is tired by the end of a match and the skill required is limited to who can tap buttons the longest and fastest. Control is good, however, and there is a pretty good range of moves available. The two player mode is fun, and the Survivor Series match is a nice addition.

Replay: 7/10

Not a bad game to play again, especially if you like these type of games. What will bring you back is the two player mode and the Survivor Series contest.

Overall: 6/10

Age and experience works against this title. Royal Rumble was able to learn from this game's mistakes, and is thus a better overall game. Raw is also. That being the case, I would recommend you rent Royal Rumble or Raw instead of this game, unless you want Hulkamania to run wild on your SNES.
