"Grapple your way to victory!"

LJN released three wrestling games to the Super Nintendo crowd. The first of these was Super Wrestlemania, so naturally it has the least amount of features, and the least amount of fun.

The most annoying feature of this game is the way you perform moves. You have to grapple with your enemies and pound a button over and over and over and whoever pounds it the most performs the move. This really wreaks havoc on your thumb and your game pad after a while, and soon you'll just try to avoid grappling at all, and just stick to dropkicks. There are ten (I think) wrestlers to choose from in this game, including such classics as the Hulkster, and Jake "the snake" Roberts. Aside from the normal game modes, such as one on one, tag team, etc. There's a single elimination Survivor Series match, where your team of four competes with another team of four in a single elimination match.

The graphics of the game are good. The wrestlers are all digitalized and they look somewhat like their real-life counterparts. The sound is just average, lots of big sweaty men yelling and grunting, nothing too spectacular. You can however listen to you favorite wrestler's (as long as he's in this game) theme music while selecting them.

Overall not that bad of a game by LJN, if you just forget about the grapple meter. All the characters control exactly the same, and they all have the same moves, so it doesn't really matter who you choose. It's pretty good for a wrestling game, but if you must have a game of this genre, pick up Royal Rumble, or better yet Raw, LJN's sequels to this game. They'll at least have signature moves to keep you busy...
