"Before KoF, there's Fatal Fury."
Introduction
Fatal Fury special is a game made by SNK which later also produce one of the famous fighting game series-King of Fighters which consist of some popular character from Fatal Fury and Art Of Fighting.
The characters in this game are from the previous two Fatal Fury games, Fatal Fury 1 and Fatal Fury 2. There is also one hidden character from another SNK game, Art of Fighting.
You could say that this game is a combined version of Fatal Fury 1 and Fatal Fury 2, which means you can play Wolfgang Krauser (Fatal Fury 2) against Geese Howard (Fatal Fury 1).
Gameplay
With 15 regular character to choose from, the amount of character available is sufficient. You can choose to play in a one-player mode, in which if you managed to beat it with a character you will be able to view that character's ending. You can also choose to play in a two-player mode and pit your fighting skill against your friends. This is no different with most of other Fighting games.
Storyline
Even though this is a fighting game, this game does have a storyline. The storyline are interconnected to King of Fighters storyline. Therefore, I would recommend you of getting this first before you play a KoF games.
Graphics
The graphics are pretty okay. A better comparison to describe the graphic would be it looks a bit similar to Street Fighter 2. The character sprites is neither too large nor too small, and of a suitable size.
Control
As with most fighting games, you could still win your way through button mashing. However, against harder computer opponents, definitely you will need to master a character's move to be able to beat harder Computer opponents.
Replay Value
I would say that this game has a quite okay replay value. This is the game that you will likely to play once in a while just for the fun of beating the hell out of your friends.
To Buy or To Rent
A pretty good fighting game for SNES, but considering the fact that this isn't the game that you will play regularly most of the time, to rent this game would be a wiser option. If you are a KoF fans, you should get this game as the storyline of this game are connected to KoF. Plus the fact that you could play some of the favorites such as Terry Boggard, made this game a good choice for fighting games fans.
