"The Pink Wonder kicks off my first review of the year."
Hey-Yo out there! Mr Skip here, a long time reader first reviewer for this wonderful site know as GameFaqs. Don't really have much to say for introduction so I'll get right into the game I choose to have the pleasure of the first review by me. And of course it's none other than Nintendo (and Hal's, the developers of the game) little underdog pink puffball of a mascot know as Kirby. So far the little guy been having a good ride. Tons of games, toys, a pretty good anime tv show, and just recently released the GB Advance game ''Nightmare in Dreamland'' (which is a remake of Kirby's Adventure). But let's take a look at one of past adventures one the SNES, namely eight of them that make up ''Kirby's Superstar''!
Skinny: Eight Kiby games in one. Six with their own storylines that have our pink hero battleing the likes of King Dedede, MetaKnight, Dynablade, etc.. Having adventures in a underground cave searching for treasure or traveling outer space trying to keep the sun and moon from fighting Or just particapating in little mini-games such as breaking rocks and pretending to be a samurai.
Core (Gameplay)''Three isn't lucky charm, eight is!'' :
Very, VERY, good. Control wise, it's pretty simple. Four button layout, two buttons to suck up enemies and use their power (or shoot them back out). and other two to jump and spit out the power or make a helper. If am not explaing it good, that's ok. The game has a little tutorial to get you into the controls before your off to fight the baddies. The mini-game require even less control then the adventures. The game itself is just flowing with creativeness. The ability to use your enemies powers keep the game unique and adds replay value. No two games are difrerent, so nothing get repetive. Another added bonus is that two players can play in the form of the helper system (1 plays as Kirby, when he copy a power he can make a helper where a 2nd player can jump in, think of it as Sonic and Tails in Sonic 2) which came as a nice surprise to me. To say the least there really nothing to gripe about the gameplay. It, dare I say, flat out ROCK!
Eye-candy (Graphics) ''Ohh, the colors'':
Also good and matches up to the gameplay. Backgrounds are drawn beautifully, bright and very pleasing to the eye. Sprites blend right in with nicely cartoony animation with a little touch of detail (ex: Kirby steps on a electo mine and fall back from the shock. His body actully twicthes with electricity before he gets back up) . Some of the animations its a little stiff here and there. But overall it fits together somehow.
Noise (Music and Sound) ''Bouncy Bouncy Bouncy!'':
If the little title above didn't give it away, then your really not paying attention. Music is indeed bouncy, but in a good way. A few of the tunes are memorable (especially the last ending's theme, wow) and keeps the game moving, a few kinda fit in there..a bit. Sound? Not bad a few bumps when you hit, and some squeaks here and there. Nothing very important or game dampering
The Verdict: ''If your SNES is still up and working. Go to some game shops and FIND THIS GAME!!!!'':
In this age of 3-D game, it's not a bad thing to go back and try those that you miss out on. 16-bit games are just a much of gems as 128-bits and in a few ways maybe better, especially if it something like Kirby Super Star. And at the prices SNES games go now (15 buck or less) it shouldn't put a dent in your savings. Trust me, this game is worth it. That all for this review, thanks for reading and ta-ta for now.
