Super Double Dragon

"Can Smashing Heads Be Fun? You Betcha!"

This is my favorite of the Double Dragon series. Basically you’re a couple of cool guys, granted only if you are playing two players which is what makes this game worth your time to play. Ok technically I am reviewing Super Double Dragon but the version I actually played was “Return of Double Dragon: The Sleeping Dragon Has Awoke”. Alright to clarify it’s the same game, just that Return is easier then the one most people know it for which is Super Double Dragon.

GRAPHICS 8/10
The graphics in this game are very good for an early Super Nintendo release. I personally think the backgrounds could have had more detail, but all in all the characters are detailed even though most the characters look the same throughout the game. The thing I did like about the game is how cool they made your guys look, just them standing there holding the staff looks very how can I put it, sweet.

SOUND 7/10
Nothing special really at all here, just your typical somewhat upbeat game music, but it does do the game justice it fits nicely with the environment I would say. Really all I can say is the music is quite average, but the sound effects are really good I think, everything is right on with the action.

STORY 8/10
Basically Billy’s girlfriend Marian was kidnapped by the Black Shadow Warriors and you must go rescue her and kick some Japanese headband wearing fools to do it. I feel over all the story is weak, but it really makes no difference, this is how games back in this gaming renaissance era were meant to be, at least for this type of game.

GAMEPLAY 10/10
Simply put this game has accurate and fast response to whatever buttons you happen to push. I really cannot complain about the controls whatsoever in this game, I didn’t once throw my controller in anger and curse at my screen. So how fun is this game? Well the real question here is, what isn’t fun about this game and the answer is nothing, I cant get enough of kicking baddies while jacking there weapons and beating them senseless with them, simply put this game is awesome.

REPLAYABILITY 10/10
Going over this game with a friend is a joy every single time regardless of how many times you played it through, how can you not get enough of bashing heads in and spin kicking fools into oblivion.

OVERALL 10/10
I highly recommend this game to anyone who owns a Super Nintendo. Should you buy this game? Absolutely it’s worth every penny you pay for it, I really haven’t checked if this is an easy game to find so I can’t really tell you if you can get it online, but like most things you can probably easily find it on the web somewhere. In conclusion this game is a must have for anyone that likes side scrolling fighting games.
