Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time
Review by Aquamentus
"Pizza Time!!!!"
Teenage Mutant Turtles IV Turtles in Time is an extremely awesome game, to be honest I really didn’t care much for the original NES ones, but this one is really well done. I first bought this game at a garage sale for about ten dollars, now take in to consideration the game came out in 1992 and I bought it in 1993, so ten dollars is not to shabby. I really thought I would hate this game, because I was a big fan of the cartoon and the NES ones just didn’t cut it for me, boy was I wrong this game is awesome. The first time playing through this game alone was pure bliss, but when I got a two players match going, that’s when it got really sweet and I can still picture those foot clan fools flying at my TV. To get right to the point this game is my favorite Super Nintendo game right next to Contra and Link to The Past, probably because I am a big turtles fan.
GRAPHICS 10/10
The Graphics in this game are amazing, everything is so bright and the backgrounds and character models are excellent. It’s really amusing to see your guy toss a foot solider at the screen and when your turtle gets squashed and fried. Konami did an excellent job porting this game from the arcade version and when you compare this game to other games made in 1992, you will really appreciate the games graphics.
SOUND 10/10
Superb is one word you can say when you talk about the sound in this game, first off the music is excellent, its very catchy and its never dull, the sound effects are awesome and you will never feel they are lame, everything is excellent as far as the sound effects go, but I still wish the turtles had there regular voices, the few times they do talk it sounds like an actual developer is saying pizza time or cowabunga.
STORY 8/10
Your average Ninja Turtles story, basically the statue of liberty is stolen by a giant robot and you go get it back and when you do Shredder sends you into a time warp. The story is somewhat mediocre at best, but perfectly sets the game up for an adventure; I mean really what else can you expect from a side scrolling action game? Anyways to sum it up the story is good and probably had no chance of getting better since it is the turtles.
GAMEPLAY 10/10
This game is so much fun; everything literally about this game is perfect, I never had one complaint about the fun factor of this game and two players make this game one of the best side scrolling action games ever. Controls are smooth and responsive, I never had one controller bashing tantrum over this game and that’s all I can really say about that, as far as the controls are concerned they perfect.
REPLAYABILITY 10/10
Like most sixteen bit games they can be played until your hands fall off, I still play this game even today, probably even more now then I did when I was younger. This game is two player so obviously the replay on this is going to be really good, I really couldn’t see a person saying this is a play and throw game, because this has a versus and time trial feature on it also, so that alone makes it playable until like I said your hands fall off.
OVERALL 10/10
Definitely the best Ninja Turtles game to date, as far as a turtles game goes you cant beat this one, I recommend this title to anyone who either likes side scrolling action games or the turtles in general. I hope this game can also bring as much joy to you as it has in my childhood and adulthood, this game is truly a sixteen bit masterpiece.
