"Not as good as playing it in an arcade, but still fun."
I was so excited about this game. I think it is still one of the better MK's.
GAMEPLAY 5
This is probably the game's biggest lack. The gameplay isn't the type that stands out a lot. The controls can be blocky at times, and sometimes don't do what they're told to. Some of the 5-hit conbos and higher can be difficult to pull off at times because of the sputtery gameplay.
GRAPHICS 8
Remember, this is SNES. The used some pretty good graphics. I think they could be much better on the PSX version, I haven't played playstation's version yet, but I bet the graphics are improved. The characters look decent, with little details like the scar on Sub-Zero's face depicted very well. They also did a good job with Sheeva. She was just the way I pictured her before i had played the game. She is one of the better graphical characters. The graphics hold up well with the fast frame rate, especially when you're being characters like Liu Kang or Sonya Blade.
SOUND 8
this is one differential from the arcade and the home version. the sound. On the arcade version, Shao Kahn's voice when he said the winner sounded much deeper and threatening, and the sound effects of the game are not as good. The cries and shouts of pain during combat aren't as realistic, and the music is weaker as well. Ever tried putting MK Trillogy for your playstation in a cd player? The music tracks are great. You won't find that on the super Nintendo's version of MK3, but I must say it is better than the Genesis version.
CHALLENGE LEVEL 4
Not to hard once you learn the moves. The moves on the game can be difficult, but not too difficult. Once you find a good strategy with all of the guys, you could probably run through this game to show your friend the ending without losing. after I had mastered the skills of Mortal Kombat 3, I looked forward to friends coming over to play against, because they were at that point the only big challenge on the game.
REPLAYIBILITY 5
I must say, this game gets old after a while. I bought it as soon as it came out, and I enjoyed it for a month or two, but this one isn't a huge blockbuster hit. I don't know how easy it would be for you to find this game much anywhere, but if you do go ahead and give it a shot.
RENT OR BUY?
Buy this one, or just rent it and keep renewing it for about a week. If you liked Mortal Kombat 4 and trillogy, give this one a try. If you aren't the supreme MK fan, rent it first, and then see what you like. this game's not perfect, nowhere near it, but it is not a flop.
