"Mortal Kombat is becoming... mortal?"
Hey everyone! It's... Mortal Kombat!
It is not my style to bad mouth a game, especially that of which is in a series as good as Mortal Kombat, but this game really didn't hit it off with me. I'll explain.
Graphics: 9
I rented this game expecting the graphics to be better than the original 3rd game, and I was not disappointed. There are more arenas and they are much more detailed. The characters look better, too. Rivers of Gore! Rivers of Gore! The gore looks great!
Sound & music: 6
While the sound effects are slightly improved, there aren't too many new sounds. In fact, I can hardly recall hearing any. There are a few new song tracks added in, but that's about it. I was kind of disappointed, but then again, Mortal Kombat is only half about the sound, and hardly about the music.
Control: 5
They really didn't improve much on this. Fatilaties, like always, are still really hard to pull off. So are special moves. Oh well...
Originality: 4
This is the part that really bothered me. They took a mediocre, very rushed feeling game, and tried to improve upon it, attempting to give us a better version? Oh please, I'm surprised this game even succeeded at all. While the new characters, new areas, and new ways of killing off your opponents are amusing, this game still does not hit it off with me, merely because I was mostly happy with the original version (as rushed as it was) that I had bought. I don't mean to put down the makers at all, but most players may feel ripped off while playing this game. They should have left well enough alone.
Bottom line: 6 (about)
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 is... sort of cool. It's got everything all the other Mortal Kombat games have, it's just that... well, it's all been done before. It's also been done better, if I recollect right.
Rent/buy:
While I can't think of any place that one could rent this game, I would consider it worth buying (eh-hem, downloading) if you are a really loyal Mortal Kombat fan. It's not that this game is bad, but rather that it just didn't appeal to me. But because I enjoyed parts of it, I'm sure someone else will enjoy the whole thing.
Though, I will say one thing: I don't recommend buying it if you've played the original Mortal Kombat 3 so much that you're tired of it. It'll feel like, as I said, more of the same.
