"A very good racer for its time"

There are so many problems with people that write reviews for older games like these ones. The thing people always do is that they always compare these old games to newer similar titles and that cannot be done. Comparing this game to need for speed 3 is like comparing wolfenstein 3D to Halo it's no contest. This game was very good for its time but don't have too high of expectations when playing it for the first time.

Game Play: 8/10
There is plenty to keep you busy in this game there are a lot of modes of play. There is stunt trax when you have big jumps setup and you collect stars to gain more time before you get to the finish. Then there is Battle Trax which is the two player mode and Free Trax that is just kind of a practice mode. Finally there is Speed Trax where you unlock levels to play in free trax just the standard grand prix mode. All of the levels available are nice there are 12 tracks available to unlock in speed trax and play in free trax. There are 5 in stunt trax one is just a demolition derby you crash into the other cars that is just a blast to play. I wish there were more 2 player tracks to play there are only 4 as far as I know anyway. The best thing is that the tracks never get boring which brings up the score a lot.

Graphics: 9/10
This game uses the super fx 2 chip which is the same engine used in star fox but modified so you can have more polygons on screen. The levels look nice the cars a nicely designed as well. The thing I liked were these cool small things that made the graphics great. There are weather effects in some levels. I one level if you knock over a billboard that says ''star fox'' you will get an arwing flying above you. If you are in the first person view and drive through a puddle or if your in rain you will see the water marks on the wind shield. Just these neat little touches make it great. The only bad thing is small clipping errors.

Sound: 7/10
Average sounds squealing tires engine sounds are pretty generic things. The one thing I did like when you drive into a tunnel you hear an echo from your engine that was cool. The music is not the greatest but it is effective and fits the game.

Replay Value: 10/10
You never get sick of this game and there is a lot of stuff you can unlock so it will keep you playing for quite awhile.

Rent/Buy
Buy it! It is only like 6 bucks and I will tell you it is worth the investment.
