Jurassic Park Review

Overall Review: 6/10

The individual scores do not affect the final score.

Story line: 7/10 - The story line of Jurassic Park resembles partial moments to the movie, but mainly the entire island, the dinosaurs, and the characters make up the similarity. You play as Dr. Alan Grant and you are on a quest to recover dinosaur eggs, activate motion sensors, secure the Visitor's Center, stop the escaping raptors from getting aboard the supply ship, destroy the Raptor nests, radio for help and make it to the helipad to leave the island before the dinosaurs eat you. It's a fun game, but difficult, long, and confusing.

Difficulty: 8/10 - The island you explore on is very large, and many things are occurring on and off screen, so be alert to what you do. It's a long game, and there are no saves, so once you go in, you leave either dead or alive, or that you're so frustrated or you run out of time you shut off the game. You will definitely need to play the game many times before you can beat it, because you will need to write or memorize maps and where things are, so you can get them again with ease. There are a lot of things to do, lots of land to explore, and many dinosaurs out there, including triceratops, dilophosaurs, velociraptors, gallimimus, and the infamous Tyrannosaurus Rex. Any one of them is very lethal, so be on your guard for them. They can appear out of nowhere and kill you.

Sound: 7/10 - The sounds aren't bad. You hear the rustling of the forest and the small noises of small animals around you, making seem like a real jungle. The guns you fire make the natural sounds heard in real life. The screaming of the dinosaurs sounds like those in the movie. The sounds could be a bit better, but most of them are enjoyable and realistic.

Music: 5/10 - There aren't a lot of tracks in the game, and even they aren't that good. They somewhat set the mood, but could be better. The music while in a building or any of the other places makes it sound mysterious. It also creates tension, as you don't know what to expect through the next screen. Anything could happen. There should definitely be more music for the game.

Control: 8/10 - Controlling Grant is very simple. He will walk in any of the 8 directions you press and will fire any of the currently selected weapons he's carrying in the direction he's facing. He will also jump over obstacles and, when in building, be able to use computers to control the systems. While navigating through buildings, it may be difficult to move because it is a small area, and may be confusing which way you're heading, but it becomes a bit easier when you get moving.

Graphics: 9/10 - The graphics are quite impressive. The characters are well developed. The map of the island is very descriptive, and the dinosaurs are developed very well. The gates are just like in the movie, and the buildings are nicely built. There are very unique designs and descriptions of the island and forests.

Entertainment: 4/10 - This is a really long and hard game. Unless you are fanatic about Jurassic Park, and have nothing else to do otherwise, you'll play this game a lot and actually beat it. I haven't beaten it, or have ever come close, because there are way too many things to do to finish. It might be enjoyable when you play it, but you'll get tired of it, as it will never cease, and most of the time you will be walking around anyway. You'll get an hour or two of enjoyment, but when you realize this is the game, you'll find yourself putting it away soon enough.

Buy it or Rent it?

Don't feel bad if you bought it, because it is a good game, but you might consider renting it and playing it for the time you have it, because you won't be playing it much after a week or even a few days.
