Doom

"Play it, but dont expect PC quality"
Doom for the SNES is one of those ported games that just dont feel like the original. This game is just boring. There is no way to continue from where you left off, making you have to play all the way through it to get to the ending of the game in one sitting, plus, there is no replay value, so after you beat it, what the heck do you do? Well, Im not gonna answer that for you, you have to answer that question by yourself. Go outside, practice your Karate, go over to a friends or girlfriends ( or boyfriends). Doom was just rushed in some opinions but in others, just dumbed down for this system. The original Doom had full screen action. This Doom has wide screen action, making you squint. The Pc doom had music that was made from a machine, while this Doom still has the music, but in MiDi form, making it nothing but a ball of Super suck( take note, im not bashing this game). Well, lemme say that the gameplay helps this game, so your in luck. Sorta.
Graphics: Well, back then, they were the best, but now adays, they are just awful. But, sadly, the best still has those flaws that you still dont want, but are stuck with. The Snes version does not have any floor textures. That is right! No floor textures. It is very hard to tell if you are stepping in waste, or just a blue floor. There have been numerous times I have stepped in waste, thinking it was a floor. So take your guess before you step in it. The walls, how ever, are textured and detailed quiet well. I will find my self stopping in the middle of a fire-fight, then turn around to look at a wall. There will be like computers with bullet holes in them and blood sprayed all over walls. But, will, the fram-rate screws this up badly. I mean, very badly. Lemme finish that as I look at these walls and have lead shot into my back, I try to turn around, but the framrate just goes Screeeeeech! Crashhhhhhhhh! Booommmmmmmmmmm!. It only goes at like 7 when walking and 3 when you have monsters trying to kick your bum! This is the only problem with this game, and it gives the game an ass whoopin, badly. Lemme just add this but since when did ID think that adding lighting would help this game out?

This is the only prob with this game. SNES cant run this game well
Controls: They are good, except when you stop pressing forward he keeps moving for a second (yes, a second). This game has auto-aim, thank god, and the buttons are placed in correct places that make you feel comfortable. The fram-rate affects this part too, sadly. Like I said. You will be walking, then when you stop, your guy slides like he is in Doom on Ice. It sucks when you are close to a ledge. You have to stop then move slowly. This game is not pressure sensetive so when you try to walk, he runs. It makes you want to cry. The fire-fights are ok as long as you are not in a large one with 5 or 6 enemies on screen. When this is happening, you are screwed. You will find your self pressing the fire button 5 times but only shot twice and not hitt anything due to the small range of the auto-target. Good luck is all I can say. You are really going to need it in this game.

The frame rate affects this too.
Story: You have got to be kidding me! There really is no story. When a friend of mine asked about the story, I told him the one from Doom 3 (dont worry. It wont be on SNES). So, I guess that is the story of Doom, and is the story I am going to tell you. You play as Doom, and somebody just unleashed hell on your space colony. You are the only survivor of this Colony, and are ordered by the U.S goverment to destroy the demons from hell (they really care about the marines, dont they!). You have to use everything in your arsenal to destroy this possesed colony until you can return to earth. You will encounter Zombies, demons, and other things from hell to save the world and rid it of hell. All I can say to you is, well, good luck

I think we have heard of this one before, havent we?
Sounds: Ahh, the sounds. Are they good or bad? Neither. They are just fine. As I stated before though, the music is from the PC version, except in MiDi form so dont expect Hard Rock tunes as you blast away some gigantice brain spider thing ( I think they were called arachnids) or as you blow away your own zombie-fied teamates who have not been able to get their brains back in, and need your help. You will enjoy kicking ass as you hear the screams that come from the demons and monsters. You will turn into a monster and close your eyes as the blood and gore just splat all over your face. You will be in violence heaven. The screams and noises your guy makes are just annoying though, but used at times to make it seem realistic. Like when you run into a wall or when you try to use the action button. Ahh, the realsim-sorta-ness of this game.

You can make it past those flaws. trust me. I have seen myself just get wrapped into this game, struggling to get past those fram-rate problems, and enjoying myself until I remember I had Castlevania 4 to play.
Buy or Rent:
There still are places that let you rent SNES games still, so if you can find one of these dated places ( I have a couple of times), then I suggest you rent, then keep if they go outa buisness while you have it (they will, trust me) or if they forget about you ( They will, trust me). Dont buy though. Mabye some stores will give it to you for free. I payed 3 bucks, so I got ripped off big time. This game is rare, kinda. So im just gonna keep it until that day when it will sell for hundreds of dollars. (It will, trust me ;))
