Krusty's Super Fun House

Review by Kbuster

"Um... yeah..."

I just found this game yesterday, sealed new for two bucks, and even tho I have a strict policy of only buying classic games if I know they're good, the price tag (and the fact that I had enough spare change in my pocket to take it home) got me to it.
This is yet another example of how badly is the Simpsons franchise represented in videogaming; the only decent game I can recall is the Double Dragon-like 'The Simpsons', on the Arcade. Still, this game, in all of its average-ness, is one of the best Simpsons games ever, which is not saying much. (Let's all remember for a while the incredibly awful Simpsons Wrestling, or Bart vs. the World. Ew.)
The game premise is simple, and resembles the old PC game, 'Lemmings': you control Krusty the Clown, and making use of items scattered around a closed stage, you must get a couple of rats to a rat trap which will kill them instantly. Once you get rid of all the rats in a stage ad get back to the stage door, it's stage finished, and you pass to the next stage. Simple enough, yet somehow addictive...
GRAPHICS: They look pretty okay to me, for a 1991 game at least. Krusty looks like... um... a midget Krusty, but everything else in the game looks about average. The backgrounds are always the same, though. Pretty average for its era. 6/10
SOUND: Ewwwwwwwww. There isn't a single sound in this game that doesn't make me flinch. Luckily, the L button turns the music off. You'll use that often- only it doesn't turn off the effects, which are clumsy at its best. Turn the volume down, now. 2/10
CONTROLS: Intuitive enough, except for that stupid idea of pressing down to grab an item. WTF? Also, Krusty handles like a dream, and the collision detection is as good as it gets. 9/10
FUN: It's a nice little addictive game, but don't expect it to be one of those games that you play until the break of dawn. 6/10
REPLAY VALUE: It's got a lot of levels, but when you finish them, it's over. There's nothing to do here after you're down with the main course. 5/10
FINAL SCORE: 6/10 (not an average). It can give you a nice little share of fun, but you won't come back often to it. Good for a rent, if you could still rent SNES games. Buy only at extremely low costs, like I did. :P
