Yoshi's Cookie
Review by Joni Philips
"Don't play this when you're hungry."
It was a cold winter day I was hungry and decided to look for some cookies. After I ate a couple of cookies, I went back to my room. I looked between my games which I still had to finish and I found Yoshi no Cookie. After that day six months passed and I still play this game.
Game play: 10/10
Controls: The game has easy controls so that you can quickly form rows of Cookies. Every button has only one function but you'll only be using the A Button.
Modes: The game has 3 Game Play modes. The first one is the Action game in which you have to be quick to solve the levels because you have to finish it before the entire screen is filled with cookies.
The second mode is the VS Game in which you can play against a computer opponent or one of your friends. You have to choose one of the available characters. After that the game starts, you'll see two long lines which has to be filled completely to win a round and a play field for every player. You'll also see a cord which burns up. Each player must sort like cookies into vertical or horizontal lines on the 5 x 5 Play field. A Player's Point Meter will increase each time that player completes a line. The first player to complete 25 lines wins the Round. If a player doesn't complete a row or a column before the Timer Fuse runs out, that player loses the Round. Each time a player wins a round, that player will earn a Crown. The Player earning three crowns first wins the match. It is a very fun game which is quite challenging because you can ''launch'' attacks on the opponent like blocking his play field. By defeating the 4 characters when they are controlled by the computer, you unlock 4 new characters.
The third and last Game Play Mode is the Puzzle Mode. This game isn't about speed but about solving the levels in a set amount of moves. This part of the game is the most difficult, the first part is easy but after that it gets hard, very hard.
Graphics: 9/10
This game has the same type of graphics has Super Mario World because these games use the same backgrounds. These graphics are very colorful and I like them very much. The game experiences no slow down or stuff like that and the cookies move fluently. The movie that is played when you don't press a button for several minutes on the main screen is also very enjoyable.
Sound: 7/10
This is somewhat of a downside to this game, it only has 3 tracks. For a Super Nintendo Game the music is actually pretty good but in this time, most people will think it is annoying because they're used to hearing better music.
Replay: 10/10
You'll often play this game again; to see how fast you can solve those puzzles you had trouble with the last time or how far you can get in the Action Game. You'll also have your hands full trying to unlock the extra characters for the VS mode. You can spend over 100 hours playing this fantastic game alone and years if you're playing with your friends.
Story: 10/10
This game unfortunately has no story but that isn't a real problem for this game. The game would have only been worse when it had a story because it would be or too complicated or would contain too much clichés like a princess or other characters who gets kidnapped, a story point done in almost every Mario/Yoshi game.
Multi player: 10/10
The multi player gets a perfect 10/10 from me. In the multi player you have to choose one of the available characters.
Overall : 9/10
I decided to give this video game; I think that the difficulty in some of the Puzzle Mode levels is too high. But that is the only point that stops me from giving this game a perfect 10/10.
Rental or buy:
On a sunny day you'll go to a game store or to a garage sale and you'll see this game lying there in a box full of junk. There is only thing you can do at that time, buy the game. You'll go home, hook on your Super Nintendo and won't stop playing until you finally beat the last level. And that can take quite a while. And after that you'll still pick it up many times to play it with your friends, or against the computer.
