Marvel Super Heroes: War of the Gems
Review by BondJamesBond
"A Marvel fan's dream come true"
War Of The Gems is perhaps one of the best Marvel games for the SNES. Any Marvel fan would have the greatest time popping this cartridge into their SNES and play as their favorite superhero.
Gameplay 10
The ability to choose between five Marvel Heroes for any mission of course means there are five different ways to complete them. Also the characters are not simply punch and jump heroes, each one has at least five special attacks. This is a feature that is lacked in most games of today where quality of a character is sacrificed over quantity of them.
Story 7
6 magical gems known as the Infinity Gems fell from space and scattered across the universe. A team of Earth's strongest heroes is formed: Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, Spiderman, and The Hulk. Their goal is to seek and retrieve the gems before they fall into the hands of evil. Pretty good story if you ask me. Still your basic ''Save The Universe'' theme like most superhero stories are but with a twist.
Controls: 10
The controls are basic and simple to use. You only use two buttons in the game and of course the directional pad. Straight and to the point controls to me.
Graphics & Sound: 8
The graphics are amazing in the game. All the superheroes are very detailed as well as the backgrounds. The sound on the other hand, while sounds good, becomes repetitive and boring after a while. But since you'll be so into the action of the game, you'll barely notice this little annoyance.
Replayability: 7
The first time to complete the game may take a little time, roughly 5-6 hours. You can use the password system if you want but after beating the game a couple of times, you'll probably be able to go through all the levels with in an hour. Which an hour is not too long to play such a great game.
Pros:
Great graphics
Perfect controls
Get to play as some of the best superheros
Cons:
Sound becomes an pain at times
A rather short game
Final Statement:
If you are a fan of any of the previously mentioned superheroes, then this game is for you. It's difficult the first time through, but afterwards it get easy enough that you can beat it in one sitting without using the password system. Seeing how this game has been out for quite some time, it should be relatively cheap and a must have for any video game collection.
