"Disappointing game...x-men failed me.... poor me."

Introduction

There has been many instances when X-men comic book characters came to the gaming console, such as the release of x-men games on the NES system console.

Well, and you think that this release on the 16-bit console, SNES, is going to be any better the other releases? I'm sorry to inform you that this game is below your average, mundane, mediocre beat-them-up fighting game that is copious in the SNES console.

WHat this game basically offers is fighting endless oppoents with the x-men theme. Now, you're wondering why this game is not great. Let me tell you why: it doesn't differ from the other beat them up games, because with the x-men theme I would expect more of something, something special the game developers had up their sleeves with this game, but no, it did not.

Words like mundane and banal best describe this game.

Gameplay

What you do is get to select six x-men characters in the game, which are wolverin, night crawler, cylcops and three others in which I'll let you discover on your own. There isn't any 'secret' characters in which you unlock as far as I'm concerned. That kind of surpised me, because I expected more characters in the x-men crew in which I get to choose from to battle the enemies.

The enemies in which you battle in the game isn't that great either. There basically generic entities with differ colors. They have a set of moves in which you attack you; some punches, while others do a low kick on you. Thus, they get predictable, and that you get to hit them before they even move.

Each of the x-men characters are like in the real comics; they have their special set of weapons or magic abilities, which ever it is. For example, Wolverine got his combo of using his claws and punchin and kicking his opponents. Again, this is disappointing because that's all you got? Just the punching button and the jumping button; the rest of the buttons on the SNES control is left to be disable.

I was expecting more in the game. At least the x-men have some special abilities up their sleeves in which they can use to destory the enemies or something, but they don't.

In this game, it requires alot of moving up and down and side to side, and not just moving in a straight, linear fashion. You get to jump from one plat-form to another and clinging and climbing to the wall and such to advance more into the game.

Graphic

The graphics for this game is good. I like the design of the x-men characters because they do indeed look like their counter-parts in the tv-shows and comic book characters. The details in the character is neatly design so they look professionally done.

Note the the enemies in the game also look, well, like nefarious bad guys. I do like the design of the bad guys because they look tough and musclar, someone that you don't really want to mess with.

The level design in the game is probably the strongest point in the whole game. You fight in a lot of places, such as the factories, on the roof of the factories and some other places that vaguely resemables a factory.

Conclusion

Maybe that this game deserves an higher mark and that I have put my expectation for this game too high? I think not? This game, to simply put it, is below your average type of fighting and beating up type of game. I wished the game developers had improved the game play a bit, adding some cool features in the game that make this one of the classic beat-them-up sort of thing, but I just ended up with a copy of a bad fighting game with the x-men theme on it. Bye for now :(
