Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage
Review by J J N
"Awesome combat game... makes me proud to own a SNES."
Introduction
Spider-Man & Venom: Maximum Carnage is one of the few good spider-man games released for the super nintendo. I'm very happy to acknowledge that this game lives up to the character and tv show that is popularity among the comic fans.
You play as spider man and venom, the two super heroes that inherit these super fighting abilities that is derived from, well, spiders.
Game play
It is your typical beat them up fighting game with the spider man and venom theme in it. Let me break it down into two selectable chracters in the game.
Spider-man: when you play spider man, he is very quick. You can just the webbling to grappling your opponents and punch him, kick or even throw! Spider man also has the ability to climb and swing around using his spider web.
Venom: he is your man! he is just the stronger, but slower version of spider man. He can block, punch and kick and throw and swing around like spider man. How he is different is that he is kinda liquid if he wants to, so he doesn't have to use the webbing when he wants to grappling the opponents from the distant.
The enemies in the game is copious and you're be fighting a lot of them. But the good thing about this game is that you won't be fighting the same enemies over and over again because there is alot of variety in the chracters design. You'll be fighting alot of different kinds, such as street punks, no good kung-fu ladies and more punks in trench coats that are trying to harm you.
Graphics
The graphics for this game is awesome! Just like the comic. The graphic is smooth and fuild whne you're fighting the enemies and that it is smooth. The moves performed in the game are just like the tv show, which gives it the authentic look -- this pleases all the spiderman fans out there. What I like is the character design for both spider man and venom and all the other bosses in the game because they're all villians just like the tv show!
The setting design in this game is set in the streets and building roof for most of the time. Sometimes you'll be fighting in the forest and fighting muli-enemies. This can prove to be a challenge!
Conclusion
Just to let you know that there is no spiderman theme song when you play, unfortunately; however, this game still merits some points because you get to select NOT ONLY SPIDERMAN, BUT VENOM as well. I like this game as a SNES beat them up fighting series.
Play it. Enjoy it.
