Review by Richard Walker
"A very good game, but lacks in levels"
Disney's Goof Troop was great as a TV show. I couldn't watch it everyday, but I loved it nonetheless. My cousin purchased the game for his SNES. And my cousin was a bit of an asshole then, I was never allowed to play it on my own. But still, this was- and still is- a great game. Strangely, this is the only Goofy and Max game ever made! Oh well. Read my review to find out why it's good.
GRAPHICS- 9/10
Capcom were known for making graphically amazing games back in the early 90's. This game was no execption. The graphics were great! They were detailed, you could tell the difference between Goofy and Max. You can clearly see the enemies, the pirates, the buzzy wasp things. Even the pot plants, gates, and fish look fantastic! The only aspect stopping the graphics from getting a perfect 10 is the story pictures(The ones where you start a level). They suck, they really do. Goofy always has the biggest smile I've ever seen, while Pete and his son, PJ(Pete JR), just look stupid! Cartoons are meant to be stupid, but this is the game, come on! Anyway, this is a minor problem of the game, so don't worry about it.
MUSIC/SFX- 5/10
This music is on a major scale, and it just sounds gay. The first level music is not very good, if you play the first level for too long it will stick in your head, and will annoy the hell out of you. Some even more insulting is there is no title screen music. And the theme music from the great TV show is missing, not present any where. Very disapointing indeed!
The SFX isn't much better either- it's short, sharp, but not sweet. The bleeps and bloops are simply crap, this is the SNES! They could have done so much better!!
GAMEPLAY- 7/10
The puzzles in this game are over decent! They're challenging and fun, especially for gamers who like an action game with a hint of puzzle challenge in it. This is the first time I've really seen a game of this type anyway. However, there is a major problem... there's only 5 or 6 levels in the entire game! OK, each one consists of about 5 puzzles, but it's not enough. You'll complete this game very quickly if you can master the controls- which you will be quick to do!
There is a two player mode, you can basically have player one as Max, and player two as Goofy, or vice versa. You get the picture.
OVERALL- 8/10
Goof Troop is an alright game, with some great, great graphics. The puzzles are fun if you like games like Super Mario Bros. 3 and Tetris. Plus, if you like well ported TV show games, this is one for you!
BUY, RENT, OR BURN?
If you can rent it somewhere, you really should and find out if you like the game ore not. You probably will, and this SNES game probably won't be a lot to buy second hand anyway. If it were my decision, and I would forget that Motown CD I was going to buy, and buy Goof Troop!
