Terranigma
Review by D-Generate99
"Hands down, the best RPG for SNES"
Man, this Enix RPG bests some of Square's RPGS! In case ya didn't know, it's the sequel to Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. The gameplay, graphics and story are all excellent.
Graphics: 10/10
The graphics in Terranigma are as good, if not better, than Chrono Trigger! The animations are excellent too, expecially the Slider attack. It kicks! The world map is kinda different to most SNES RPGS. It's sort of 3D. That's not a bad thing, don't get me wrong. The bosses, especially Bloody Mary, look great too.
Sound: 9/10
The appropriate music and sound are played in certain areas. Although I didn't listen to the audio much, from what I listened to, it was pretty good.
Gameplay: 10/10
Enix have done a fantastic job here. There are separate buttons on the controller for jumping, dashing, attacking and pausing. The moves can be combined to make new moves, eg. the Dash attack and the powerful Slider attack. They aren't difficult to figure out either: the Dash attack, for instance, is just Dash + Attack.
The equipment/items menu - which is commonly accessed by pressing the X button - is opened by the Select button. It's an original, different system. Basically, there are Items, Weapons and Armour doors to get to their respective rooms.
Another nice touch is that the weapons are not swords and axes: they are spears and pikes. Some also have special properties, eg. the Roc Spear can destroy boulders and if you use the Cryspear you regain health if you wait.
There are different means of transprt too. Fly in a plane, sail a ship, hitch a ride on a bird or just walk to your destination.
Story: 9/10
Kinda confusing, but very original. The main thing is you have to resurrect the world. By defeating different bosses you accomplish this.
The characters all have their own personality. And the main character actually talks, unlike in Chrono Trigger. You get to make desicions yourself in Terranigma.
One thing that stands out from the rest is that you get to expand cities you visit. The main thing you have to do is take goods to other places so that that good will begin to be used around the world. You can help invent the hamburger, canned food, the telephone and the camera.
Replayability: ???
Well personally once I complete an RPG I don't play it again for yonks. But for those who play the same RPG a hundred times over, the replayability rating would be around the 10s.
Overall: 20/10
THE RPG for the SNES. Better than Zelda, Chrono Trigger, FF3 and SoM. Buy this one!
