Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters
Review by J J N
"This game kicks the turtle shell out of Street Fighters."
Introduction
There has been a serie of video games for the Ninja Turtles, which doesn't need any introduction to any adolescents because the television show is very popular. After the ninja turtles has made it debut on the NES and now on the NES... and now... they, the game developers, had made a ninja game with a different genre: they made a game that is a two player fighting tournament style fighting game in which you get to control your favorite ninja turtles plus a myriad of other characters in the tv show.
This is a fighting based tv show series that you wouldn't forget...
Game Play
As I have mentioned early in this review, you get to select all your favourite teenaged mutant ninja turtles! I love this because your turtles got their weapons and other martial art moves in which you use to battle with your opponents.
Now, you're not limited to your ninja turtles only because this has been done before in the previous game. You get to select other villians and good guys in the game. The characters are based on the tv show and some other are not so well known. Some characters such as a robot, a bat and some skin clad martial arts female that is ever so good in delivering a good pack of punch.
The game is played like other two player fighting martial art games like Street Fighter series. But there is an added twist in this game: you have this special bar underneath the health bar in this game. The special bar is accummulated when you do special moves such as attacking and blocking and such.
The game play is above average for your two player tournament fighting game. I love it because there is my totally cool ninja turtles and battling in a furious battle with the other fighters in this game. If I have to compare it with popular fighting series such as Street Fighters, I would say it is MUCH MUCH better then SF.
Graphics
The graphics for this game is EXCELLENT. The animation for the game is fluid when you're fighting and that everything is smooth and no frame rate problem or anything else.
I love the animation design for this game because the characters, meaning the ninja turtles and other selectable characters in this game looks authentic as if the animation was done offically - by the animation artist of the company itself -- and not some third party game developer company.
The enironment setting for this game - the fighting stages - are finely designed in the game because you have variety and it coheres with the character's stage. For example, for the Skark Man stage there is water and the beach. Appropriate.
Conclusion
Great fighting game that I love. Play it if you're not a turtle fan, and still play it if YOU'RE NOT a turtle fan. Have fun!
