Disney's Aladdin
Review by crago2000
"A classic, why can't all film conversions be this good?"
Today is retro time and I have dug out my old SNES game and found this, Disney's Aladdin. Why should I go a review for this now you say. Well the GBA version is out and you can compare if it worth buying now your keep to the original.
So what is this game about? Well this game is based on the Disney animated film Aladdin. It is a 2D platform game which follows the script (at most times) of the film.
You play as Aladdin as you make your way from the street to the palace while flying on a carpet and being aided by your friend Apu, Carpet and of course the Genie of the lamp.
So it a plat former, what are the controls like? they are not bad for the SNES. When facing a boss it could be slightly difficult but once you get use to them it won't be to hard to pull off those moves. Ideal for younger gamers.
It's on the SNES. Are the graphics like? Well the graphics are crisps and clear and each character looks like they who they should be. The background are in detail and look beautiful. For a SNES game you can't get much better.
What is the sound/in game music like? Well this is where the game is let down. The in-game music is dull and you be reaching for the remote after a few minutes. It does have the ''A whole new world'' song but on the music not the lyrics. None of the character are voiced and all the speech is in text. This isn't important but you feel a bit let down when you forced to listen to that music.
So what is the gameplay like? The AI of the enemy sometimes seems stupid but the boss are hard. After a while of running, swinging, punching and swinging some more, older and veteran gamers may find it a bore.
So why should I buy it now/or buy the GBA version? The GBA version is the same game but with some new mini games. It isn't as good as this one and doesn't use the GBA well. But read someone's review of it first before taking my opinion.
It maybe very hard to find this game. As it almost 10 years old and a SNES game the best bet is Retro shops and online auctions.
The reason why you should buy this game is because it is a challenge and a faithful conversion of a movie. Very few games based on films or TV shows are any good but like the Lord of the Rings: The two towers it succeeds.
The only problem is once you complete it there is nothing left do. No replay value at all.
Recommendation: If cheap buy of the auction web sites
Enjoy!
