"It's like Lemmings, with swords (and catapults)"

When you first pop in King Arthur's World, you'll immediately find the similarities to Lemmings. This game functions almost identicle to Psygnosis' famous franchise. Let's begin shall we.

Gameplay - 8

Like I said, the game is like Lemmings. You control Arthur. But other than that, all other units are "deployed" from your army's main tent. Unlike lemmings, you have a bit more control over your buddies. You can opt to stop your men wherever you want, unlike Lemmings where hey just kept walking. There's actually alot of strategy here. One thing that will require some getting used to is the need to control alot of men at once. Many levels are quite big and require you to watch multiple units at once, which stretches you pretty thin. The game gives you a series of tutorial missions at the start to acquaint you with the system, but even this is not enough. There's no battery, so you're stuck using passwords to continue. Fortunately, unlike most games, the passwords actually WORK in this one. Another thing you'll take a little time to learn is the magic. Wizards are integral to strategy in some levels, but the dies VERY easily (come on, they ARE wizards after all). And magic can be devestating ot both parties involved. Many times, your magic could accidently take out and integral bridge, requiring you to build a new one, which often happens while under fire from enemy archers. So be warry and plan ahead.

Graphics - 10

I liked this title's look. It's very detiled and bright. It reminfds me of the style from old Westwood games like Young Merlin and Kyrandia. Nothing to complain about here.

Sound - 10

While there's not alot of variation, the music is very "medieval" and fits the slightly campy subject matter. Again, no complaints here.

Overall - 9

If you enjoyed lemmings, but yearned for a bit more control, you'll love this game. It's a great strategy game that does some really neat things with it's mechanics. It's relatively easy to find and cheap, so i recomend it to all who even are remotely interested in strategy games. Go get it!
