"Lord it ain't good"

The Tick is an enjoyable character. I've read the comics, seen the Fox cartoon this game is based on and for the most part enjoyed it. That being said, this game is bad. It is long, repetitive beat 'em up action, and is not enjoyable. Even when the big old blue guy yells, "SPOOON!" the game still is not fun to play.

Graphics:5/10: The Tick looks fine. The unlimited supply of ninjas are average. Some of the Mini Bosses, look decent. The game look is pretty bland and unimaginative. Nothing special or even worth seeing for camp value. The support characters are so bad they look worse than you'd think for an NES game, let alone a Super Nintendo.

Gameplay:4/10: Beat up faceless bad guys. Dodge projectiles. Fight boss. That's it. Nothing but repetitive ninja and Idea Men bashing. That an ninjas like to attack you from beyond the edge of the screen, making it very frustrating. The bosses are stronger than the uber strong, nigh invulnerable Tick and have a pattern of attacks to dodge, poke and repeat. Plus I wanted to throw a chimney at those pesky ninjas, like in the comic, but couldn't do it.

Controls: 7/10: Controls are adequate and responsive. Nothing special. The Tick moves well, jumps well. The fighting controls are responsive enough.

Story: 4/10: There is a kinda weak storyline between each stage, but it is un-necessary and uninspired. The poor storyline was not needed for this poor game. Some generic excuse to beat up a bunch of baddies and fight a boss at the end stage. The storyline does not make you want to keep playing and find out what happens. It's just constant drudgery.

Overall, the game is not fun to play. I couldn't recommend it even for a rental. I have played worse games, but this game has nothing remarkable about it, except the Tick name. I wanted this title to be good, to be fun, but I'd be lying if I said this game is worth your time. Read the old comics, watch the old cartoons, but don't get this for your love of the Tick.
