"If StarCraft, Command and Conquer, make you pay too much in the game.../A racist game, with ants!"
SimAnt is one of the first sim games from Maxis (The Sims), and is the simplest so far, and now I don't have to play with ants outside anymore (bite me will you?! I set my foot upon thee!).
Story: 9/10
You are the yellow ant, the only yellow ant (so you know who you are) who has the responsibility to protect your black ant tribe from the reds. I'll make up a story and say: You are the legendary gold ant, rejected from the red ants, who ran away until the blacks took you in. The reds are the blacks greatest enemy, and with your leadership skills you can guide your friends to victory!
Graphics: 9/10
It's got good graphics, you get a bird's eye view close up of the ant life. And everything in the game looks detailed enough to be recognized. You get graphs and maps of the whole place you are crawling in.
Sound: 9/10
Hehe. The music is cute and the ant has voice overs, like "Thank you!" and "Hello". You can also hear crunch noises from the Ant Lion and grinding noises from a lawn mower, among other things.
Gameplay: 9/10
There are two modes of play. There's the Quick Game, the game where you must succeed through 8 levels and the Full game is, well, the full game. You have unlimited lives and you must colonize every square of the whole lot, including the house to become the king of ants. In Full, it takes long to save. The game is like those real-time strategies except you don't need to buy weapons or pay for barracks and junk. You must fight using your army of summoned ants and bring back food from spiders and those green ball things to create more ants. This game is actually good for people who dont need money to buy what you need in the game. Its a very simple RTS and more fun than it looks. The game will get repetitive after a while though.
Replay: 6/10
It takes very long to beat the full mode. But if you'd like to start from scratch you can do that.
Buy/Rent:
Buy, you can't get enough of this game. And did I mention that the Full game is veeeeeery long?
Overall 8/10
Repetitive yes, but everything else is pure fun and simple. If you find those other PCRTS's a tad too difficult, this might be the game for you.
