"Top Gear = High-speed racing and an intense soundtrack"
I got Top Gear a few years ago off eBay as a blind buy. Little did I know, I was purchasing one of the best SNES racing games around. Although there's no story, this game blows you away with fast-paced, seizure-inducing racing action.
Since this game's on SNES, I can't say the graphics are amazing, but considering the time-period this game's from, they're pretty good. The track look like they're zooming by, the car look pretty cool considering you only see them from behind, and in the levels where it switches from night to day, it's intense. So, I give the graphics an 8/10.
Some people may disagree with my thoughts on the sound in this game. One of the reviews said the music was horrible. If you're a fan of 1990s video game techno, this game rules. I actually turn up my stereo to blast the songs on this game. The cars sound cool, but the soundtrack is intense. Although there are only four different songs, they'll keep you tuned in because they rule so much. I give the sound a perfect 10/10.
The game play in this is really intense. The only problem is there is only one mode. You can choose between one or two players, and that's about it. When you're racing, and you hit the nitro button, you're zooming down the track and it's unbelievable. After a while, though, you might get bored of just holding down the gas, and occasionally hitting the nitro into gear. Although I love this game to death, the game play is sometimes extremely repetitive. As I said, you drive, turn, and then stop for gas sometimes, so I'm going to give it a 7/10.
Overall, this game will be a favorite of yours if you're into racing games and you still play with your SNES. The music is awesome, the game play will blow you away (for a while), and the sheer fun of it can make you play for hours. My brother and I used to play this game every day. We put it away to play more up-to-date games like Grand Theft Auto 3 and Max Payne. But then, one of my friends visited and we happened to pull this out and it was instant excitement. We played through the whole game (which is about 24 levels, I think) before having to stop. This game will blow you away with it's speed, but get old after a while. You can always count on it being fun after a vacation from it's high-speed action, though, so I give it a 9/10.
